Iran Zarif likens Netanyahu to ‘the boy who cried wolf’

Zarif likens Netanyahu boy who cried wolf’

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is like the boy who cries wolf after he repeats old allegations concerning Iran’s nuclear activities.

“The boy who can’t stop crying wolf is at it again. Undeterred by cartoon fiasco at UNGA. You can only fool some of the people so many times,” tweeted Zarif on Monday.

Zarif was referring to Netanyahu’s 2012 address to the United Nations in which he unfolded a chart with a cartoon-style drawing of a nuclear bomb, and proceeded to draw on it with a red magic-marker.

“This is a bomb,” he said. “This is a fuse.”

In a separate tweet, Zarif rejected accusations by the US President Donald Trump and Netanyahu concerning Tehran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons.

“Pres. Trump is jumping on a rehash of old allegations already dealt with by the IAEA to “nix” the deal. How convenient. Coordinated timing of alleged intelligence revelations by the boy who cries wolf just days before May 12. But Trump’s impetuousness to celebrate blew the cover,” he tweeted.

The remarks were made in response to Netanyahu who earlier delivered a televised address in which he accused Iran of violating the JCPOA. “That is just not an acceptable situation. They’re not sitting back idly. They’re setting off missiles, which they say are for television purposes. I don’t think so,” he said.

Just minutes after Netanyahu’s speech, US President Donald renewed his strong criticism of JCPOA and gave a tacit approval to the Israeli prime minister’s rhetoric.

Israel’s Netanyahu Claims ‘Proof’ Iran Sought Nuclear Weapons

April 30, 2018 By administrator

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his country has obtained copies of tens of thousands of files purportedly containing “incriminating” information about Iran’s nuclear program, including evidence that Tehran was seeking to acquire nuclear weapons.

In a press conference in Tel Aviv on April 30, Netanyahu said that, after signing an agreement with international powers that curbed its nuclear program in 2015, Tehran hid the archives of its nuclear program, including information about a plan to develop the equivalent of “five Hiroshima bombs to be put on ballistic missiles.”

“Iran planned at the highest level to continue building nuclear weapons,” Netanyhu said.

Iran has always said its nuclear program was entirely peaceful and has denied seeking nuclear weapons.

Netanyahu said the 2015 nuclear deal was “based on lies.”

In all, Netanyahu said Israel has obtained “exact copies” of some 55,000 files from the purported Iranian archive.

He also showed a video that he said showed a previously unknown Iranian nuclear facility.

‘Propaganda Show’

Iran’s state IRNA news agency said Netanyahu was “famous for his ridiculous shows,” while the semiofficial Fars agency called the press conference “a propaganda show.”

Before the presentation, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called Netanyahu “the boy who can’t stop crying wolf.”

Netanyahu also said that Israel has shared its information with the United States.

U.S President Donald Trump has criticized the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, which was negotiated under his predecessor, Barack Obama.

He has called for the deal to be renegotiated or scrapped and has said he is considering withdrawing from it.

At his Tel Aviv press conference, Netanyahu said he is certain Trump will do “the right thing” regarding the nuclear deal.

Netanyahu met on April 29 with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to discuss Iran and the nuclear deal.

After the talks, Pompeo said Trump had “a comprehensive Iran plan that is designed to counter the full array of threats emanating from Tehran.”

He added that the United States was “deeply concerned about Iran’s dangerous escalation of threats to Israel and the region.”

Rob Malley, a former official in the Obama administration, posted on Twitter that “for those who have followed the Iranian nuclear file, there is nothing new” in Netanyahu’s presentation.

“All it does is vindicate the need for the [2015] nuclear deal,” Malley added. “But the Israeli prime minister has an audience of one: Trump.”

January 11, 2018 By administrator

Senior executives from drone firm Aeronautics Defense Systems, a company that allegedly attempted to bomb the Armenian military on behalf of Azerbaijan, will travel to India as a part of delegation of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

Netanyahu will visit India on Saturday with a delegation of 130 businessman from 100 companies, including Aeronautics Defense Systems, Haaretz reported.

The company is at the center of a sensitive criminal investigation by the international crime unit of the Israel Police, Haaretz writes.

The office of the Prime Minister did not disclose the list over concern of the conflict of interests, but Israel Export Institute, which set up the list said “Aeronautics is one of the companies participating”.

“We have no information regarding the investigation being conducted against the company,” the statement reads.

Michael Rubin: Israel’s Netanyahu is playing a cynical game on Iraqi Kurdistan referendum

September 27, 2017 By administrator

Michael Rubin | Washington Examiner

In the run-up to Iraqi Kurdistan’s referendum, almost the entire international community lined up against the Iraqi Kurds’ move toward independence. The Iraqi central government called the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)’s move illegal. Both Iran and Turkey, fearing the precedent the Iraqi Kurdish referendum sends to their own Kurdish populations, have threatened reprisals, the most serious of which could be revealed in the weeks to come. The United States, meanwhile, opposes the referendum because of fears it could undermine the fight against the Islamic State at a time when Kurdish peshmerga and Iraqi forces are on the cusp of driving them out of their last Iraqi stronghold near Hawija. Arab states oppose the Kurds, well, because they’re not Arab. And the broader international community wishes to avoid regional chaos.

Only Israel has voiced full-throated official support for the referendum and an independent Kurdistan. Earlier this month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu endorsed Kurdish independence. Israel “supports the legitimate efforts of the Kurdish people to achieve their own state,” he declared.

On its surface, Netanyahu’s actions are not surprising. Israelis have long had an affinity for the Kurds. Prior to Iran’s Islamic Revolution, Israel pursued an ethnic strategy to ally with non-Arab states such as Iran, Turkey, and Ethiopia against the Arab nationalism sweeping the Middle East. In addition, many in Iraqi Kurdistan’s once sizeable Jewish community fled to Israel. Then there’s the affinity Israelis have with the Iraqi Kurds as survivors of repression and genocide. Finally, there’s the diplomatic angle. Iraq has long called for territories disputed by both Israel and the Palestinians to go to the Palestinians and so, from an Israeli point of view, why shouldn’t Jerusalem support a similar dismantling of large chunks of Iraq?

Netanyahu’s game, however, is also cynical and inconsistent. How can he, after all, support independence for Kurds in Iraq but do business with a regime guilty in recent years of far greater oppression in Turkey? And, what does Israeli support for Kurdish independence mean? If Turkish troops, Iran’s Qods Force, or Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi militias enter the region, will Israel come to Kurdish defense?

While Kurds cite wild and untrue, rumors of Israeli F-16s based at Erbil’s international airport, the logistical lift would be difficult and Israel would not want to deplete its weapons system when it might need them to defend the Jewish state against Iran and Hezbollah. Nor does it appear that Israel is willing to give weaponry to the Kurds. This might simply be either because of strings attached by Israel’s supplier and/or recognition that weaponry given to the Kurds often ends up on the black market.

Either way, Israeli authorities are guilty of inciting the Kurds toward disaster.

While it is impossible to read Netanyahu’s mind, he is probably viewing the Iraqi Kurdish struggle through the lens of Israel’s concern about Iran. He knows that an independent Iraqi Kurdistan would send shockwaves and perhaps destabilize Iran. But if Israel is to support the Kurds, it should do so for the Kurds’ sake, not for other realpolitik motives.

Here, alas, Kurdish history might repeat, albeit with different actors. In the early 1970s, the Iraqi Kurds became a Cold War proxy in the battle for influence between the United States and the Soviet Union. In 1975, however, U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger withdrew support for the Kurdish insurgency in Iraq after brokering a deal between Tehran and Baghdad. Iraqi forces poured north and the Kurds, including current de facto leader Massoud Barzani, fled to Iran. Kissinger’s cynical move set the Kurds up for the massacres they subsequently suffered at the hands of Saddam Hussein’s regime.

Today, however, Israeli leaders treat the Kurds as pawns in a new Cold War between Jerusalem and Tehran. The Kurdish population needs to know what the Kurdish leadership understands: Israel is not going to be able to give Iraqi Kurdistan what it needs.

If Israel truly wants to support the Kurds, then Israeli leaders could counsel Kurds on tough choices taken by the nascent Jewish state decades ago. The Kurds claim an expansive Kurdistan and call Kirkuk “their Jerusalem.” And, at least when Westerners are around, they often compare themselves to Zionists fighting for their own state in the late 1940s.

But few Kurds remember that the Zionists accepted a partition plan with which they were dissatisfied, and agreed to a ceasefire that left the Old City of Jerusalem in Jordanian rather than Israeli hands.

Sometimes compromise is a necessary price for statehood. It is that type of counsel, rather than a polemical endorsement, which Kurds could use. And, unless Israel is willing to support the Kurds where and how it counts, they would do better if Israel simply remained silent.

“Tit for Tat” Netanyahu Support kurdistan independence because Erdogan Support Hamas

September 16, 2017 By administrator

Netanyahu’s message to Turkey is that as long as it supports Hamas, it can expect stones to be thrown at its glass house
Analysis Kurdistan independence: One day in September could wreak havoc in the Middle East

“Israel opposes the Kurdistan Workers’ Party [the PKK] and sees it as a terror organization, as opposed to Turkey, which supports the terror organization Hamas. But while Israel opposes terror as such, it supports the legitimate efforts of the Kurdish people to achieve a state of their own,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said this week.
Perhaps it was no coincidence that his statement came only a few days after a speech by one of his Habayit Hayehudi partner-rivals, Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, at the Interdisciplinary Center at Herzliya, in which she touched on Kurdish independence. But she took it even further and said, “The Israeli and American interest is that there should be a Kurdish state, firstly in Iraq. It’s about time that the United States supports this.”

“Firstly in Iraq?” And where after that, Turkey? Iran?

Israel’s support for Kurdish independence is not new; Netanyahu has made similar declarations as far back as 2014. But the timing, less than two weeks before a September 25 referendum slated to be held in Iraqi Kurdistan, makes the Israeli message more than just moral support for the Kurdish people’s desire for an independent state. The statement, the first of its kind to be made by any world leader, is a dagger right in the eyes of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is ideologically and strategically opposed to the establishment of a Kurdish state.
Netanyahu was delivering a double message to Turkey, although not solely to Turkey. As long as Turkey supports Hamas and doesn’t define it as a terror group, it can expect stones to be thrown at the glass house in which it lives. In addition, whoever supports an independent Palestinian state should be prepared for Israel to encourage the establishment of a Kurdish state.

Israel’s attorney general orders criminal probe against Netanyahu

December 29, 2016 By administrator

Israel’s Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit has approved the opening of a full criminal investigation into the financial activities of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amid allegations of bribery and fraud.

Netanyahu will be investigated following a nine-month police inquiry into two unspecified matters, and will be summoned to give evidence in the coming days, Israel’s Hebrew-language Channel 10 television network reported.

An unnamed spokeswoman from Israel’s so-called Justice Ministry said in a statement that checks in the matter “are still ongoing and this is neither confirmation nor denial of what has been alleged.”

“The attorney-general, the police and prosecutors are working in close cooperation and a public announcement will be made in due course about the investigation,” she said.

Netanyahu has long been the subject of scrutiny over his financial dealings.

Mandelblit recently ordered an investigation into claims that Netanyahu accepted 1 million euros (about $1.1 million) from accused French fraudster Arnaud Mimran in the form of donations during his 2009 campaign.

In May, Comptroller Yosef Shapira issued a critical report on Netanyahu’s foreign trips, some of which were taken with his wife Sara and children, from 2003 to 2005, when he was the Israeli finance minister.

The Israeli prime minister is also under investigation over the billion-dollar purchase of three submarines from Germany, where media have reported “a serious conflict of interest” on the part of Netanyahu.

Reports emerged last month that Netanyahu’s personal lawyer and one of closest confidants, David Shimron, was representing the German arms manufacturer ThyssenKrupp, which is making the submarines.

Channel 10 later disclosed an email it claimed was proof that Shimron used his close relationship with Netanyahu to lobby for the deal.

A separate probe is also underway in Israel into accusation that Sara Netanyahu misused public funds for private expenses.

Netanyahu of Israel gift to Azerbaijan, weapons of mass destruction

December 16, 2016 By administrator

BY YARON WEISS

The Israeli government’s support for Azerbaijan is unacceptable and disgraceful. Many Israelis are concerned about the cooperation between Israel and one of the darkest dictatorships in the world. Earlier this year, Zehava Galon, one of the leaders of the opposition in Israel, accused Avigdor Lieberman, Israel’s Defense Minister, as a “foreign agent” collaborating with the government of Azerbaijan.

Many Israelis feel empathy and solidarity towards Armenia. The two nations have suffered genocide. Armenia is a small country surrounded by enemies as Israel. However, the Israeli government’s policy is the opposite of the feelings of Israeli citizens. It seems that the Israeli government sells its values for money.

Netanyahu warned the world that Iran is a dangerous country and threatens to exterminate Israel. He demands to impose sanctions on Iran. But at the same time, he sells weapons to Azerbaijan who threatens Armenia.

Azerbaijani aggression against Armenia is similar to Iran’s aggression against Israel.

Even in the past, Israel has sold weapons to dictatorships. As a result, oppressed nations began to hate Israel. Everyone remembers the cooperation between Israel and South Africa during apartheid regime. It is no coincidence that South Africa’s Goverment is hostile toward Israel.

In the seventies, Israel sold weapons to the Shah of Iran. Later, the weapons turned against Israel. This is what is likely to happen with Israeli weapons in Azerbaijan.

Two months ago, I visited in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic), and met a courageous and determined people. Nothing in the world will change the fact that Artsakh has been and will be forever Armenian. No drones and no sophisticated weapon systems can subdue the courage of the Armenians. We will continue to demand that the Israeli government stop selling weapons to Azerbaijan. We will continue to demand that the Israeli government will adopt a moral foreign policy. It is proven that relationships between countries based on shared values persist for a long time.

We have seen in the past that giving priority to material interests alone without moral partnership do not hold for long. I believe that in the end, common sense will prevail.

The question is, how many victims will there be until that time?

Netanyahu once again suspected of shady relations with foreign businessmen

July 5, 2016 By administrator

B-Netanyahu

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

(Presstv) Israel’s prime minister, who is already suspected of having accepted more than USD one million worth of “donation” from a French fraud brain, is now the subject of a new investigation.

Back in March, it was reported that Benjamin Netanyahu had had shady relations with a French individual considered by French prosecutors as the “brain” behind one of the biggest frauds in history.

The Frenchman, Arnaud Mimran, along with his partners, is accused of stealing between EUR 300 million to 1.6 billion (USD 334 million to 1.7 billion) in a fraud case commonly referred to in Europe as “the scam of the century.”

On Monday, Israel’s Channel 2 reported that police were now probing whether the Israeli prime minister had received illegal contributions from foreign businessmen during his current tenure.

Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit is reportedly assisting the probe, which the Channel said has grown into a full-blown investigation.

Reacting to the recent report, Netanyahu said, “It’s nonsense.”

“Every time I go for a historic visit abroad, we hear about investigations,” he told reporters while in Uganda as part of his first trip to Africa.

His office also accused Mimran of having created the hype as a means of deflecting attention from his own case.

In May, Israeli comptroller Yosef Shapira cited a “fear of criminality” concerning Netanyahu’s finances when he was the finance minister over a decade ago.

It said he had received funding from private organizations and donors for family travels between 2003 and 2005.

Netanyahu’s wife, Sarah, has also been accused of using state funds to pay for private costs, including for the purchase of garden furniture for the residence, and mishandling funds from recycled bottles.

Netanyahu meets Russia’s Putin over concerns of Russian support for Assad

September 21, 2015 By administrator

netanyahu_putin.thumbBenjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, has met the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, to discuss concerns over Russia’s continuing military buildup in Syria in support of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, The Guardian reported.
Netanyahu’s lightning visit to Moscow on Monday follows concern in Israel that the recent Russian presence will threaten Israel’s defence, both through fears that Russian-supplied weapons will end up with Hezbollah, an ally in Syria on Assad’s side, and make it more difficult for Israeli aircraft to strike there.

In an unusual move, Netanyahu was accompanied both by his defense chief of staff, Lt Gen Gadi Eizenkot, and the head of military intelligence, Maj Gen Herzl Halevi, whose presence – say Israeli analysts and media underlined the seriousness of the discussions.

Speaking on his arrival, Netanyahu said his visit to Moscow was aimed at preventing clashes between Russian and Israeli military forces in the Middle East. Putin said Russia’s actions in the region would always be “responsible”.

In an attempt to reassure Israel, Putin told Netanyahu that his fears of Syrian and Iranian aggression in the Golan Heights, bordering Syria, were unfounded, adding the Syrian army “has no time for a second front”.

Announcing the visit last week, a statement from Netanyahu’s office said the Israeli leader would speak about “the deployment of Russian military forces in Syria”.

“He will describe the threats to Israel following the military reinforcement in the Syrian arena and the supply of weapons to Hezbollah and other terrorist organisations,” it read.

Officials indicated before the visit that Israel was seeking a similar “deconfliction” mechanism to the US and its allies – a term referring to the avoidance of accidental military clashes to allow Israeli jets to operate in Syrian airspace.

The meeting came amid claims that Russia is building up its military forces around an airbase in Latakia near the Syrian coast, with reports of the arrival of modern armoured vehicles, artillery and aircraft including – according to reports – four Russian Sukhoi Su-27 fighter planes.

Israeli jets are believed to have struck targets near the Russian-occupied airfield on two previous occasions, in 2013 and 2014. Moscow has broadly hinted it might be prepared to send combat troops if the Assad regime requested them.

Israel’s desire to maintain its ability to strike targets it says are threatening it in Syria raises the prospect of an increasingly complex and dangerous combination of military forces with a stake in the Syrian civil war, increasing the risk of confrontations between rival players.

In recent months, Israeli jets have struck what sources have described as weapons supply facilities for Hezbollah and convoys, as well as personnel directing what it says has been a Hezbollah buildup close to Israel’s norther border.

But while both Russia and the US appear united in seeking to dislodge Islamic State from its strongholds, beyond that the issues become increasingly fraught, not least with Russia’s common cause with Hezbollah and Iran in seeking to prop up Assad’s increasingly beleaguered regime.
