Blast hits near police station in southern Turkey

December 28, 2017 By administrator

A photo by Turkish media shows investigators probing the site of a blast in city of Adana.

An explosion has targeted a police station in the southern Turkish city of Adana, causing damage and shattering nearby windows, local media say.

According to the private Dogan news agency, the blast took place at 7:10 p.m. on a street close to the police station in the city’s Seyhan district on Thursday.

The bomb was placed beneath an electrical pole by a person wearing a mask. It shattered nearby windows and was heard in other parts of the city.

Adana Police Chief Selami Yildiz said that the explosion was caused by a “sound bomb” designed to make a loud noise but not cause any casualties.

“We believe it was a home-made bomb, like a sound bomb,” the official Anadolu agency quoted Yildiz as saying. “We are continuing our inspections,” he added

Police teams have launched a major manhunt for the perpetrator.

In recent years, Turkey has suffered a wave of deadly attacks carried out by Kurdish militants or Takfiri Daesh terrorists that have killed hundreds of people.

A large explosion has hit an area near Damascus international airport, BBC reports citing the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The airport lies about 25 km (15 miles) south-east of Syria’s capital.

The blast was reportedly followed by a large fire. There is no word on casualties. The cause is unclear. According to the report by RIA Novosti, the fire broke out in the warehouse near the airport, which could have been caused by Israeli airstrikes.

Turkey’s Diyarbakir Explosion rocks police headquarters

April 11, 2017 By administrator

A powerful explosion has hit near a riot police headquarters in Turkey’s southeastern city of Diyarbakir.

Medics said at least four people were injured in the blast that rocked the largest Kurdish-majority city on Tuesday.

The blast could be heard in several areas of Diyarbakir, reports said. Gray smoke was reportedly seen rising from the area.

Ambulances and police were sent to the blast’s scene.

Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said the explosion occurred during the repair of a vehicle at the police compound.

Tensions have been running high in Turkey’s Kurdish-dominated southeast since a ceasefire declared by the PKK collapsed in 2015 in the wake of Ankara’s military operations against the Kurdish group’s positions both inside the country as well as in northern Iraq.

Turkey has declared the PKK a terrorist organization and has banned it. The militant group has been calling for an autonomous Kurdish region since 1984.

In response to the military raids, PKK militants have stepped up their attacks against Turkish security forces over the past 18 months.

The blast comes few days before a referendum on constitutional changes. The April 16 plebiscite is mainly aimed at abolishing the office of the prime minister and giving more executive powers to the president. Critics say the vote would give the president dictatorial powers.

Turkey 13 Turkish soldiers killed, 56 wounded in attack in Turkey’s Kayseri

December 17, 2016 By administrator

Some 13 soldiers were killed, 56 wounded in attack near Erciyes University in the central Turkish city of Kayseri early on Dec.17, Hurriyet Daily News reports, citing the Turkish Armed Forces.

A bus transporting soldiers was hit by an explosion near Erciyes University in the central Turkish city of Kayseri early on December17, wounding an unknown number of people, security sources said.

Ambulances were sent to the area after the explosion, the sources said. Turkey’s Dogan news agency said the blast hit the bus as it drove past a car believed to be packed with explosives.

Hospital sources in Kayseri confirmed that people had been killed and wounded after an explosion hit a bus there on Dec.17, although they were not able to give any details about the death toll.

Broadcaster NTV said the bus was carrying off-duty soldiers and civilians when it was hit by the blast near a bus stop at the campus of Erciyes University.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister, Veysi Kaynak said blast that hit bus was a car bomb and it targeted bus carrying soldiers.

Kaynak also said, blast resembled attack in Beshiktash in Istanbul, confirming that there were wounded but unsure on number of deaths.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s media watchdog, the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), imposed a temporary ban that includes live broadcast from the scene, footage taken from the time of the blast and afterwards, and images of bodies, the agency said in a statement.

An investigation to the attack is underway.

The blast came a week after a twin bombing outside an Istanbul soccer stadium killed more than 40 people and wounded more than 100, an attack claimed by Kurdish militants.

At least 13 people have been killed or injured in twin bomb attacks that rocked the province of Sulaymaniyah in Iraq’s semi-autonomous region, local media say.

On Sunday, two bombers detonated their explosive belts near residential areas at a village close to the town of Darbandikhan, Shafaaq News website quoted a Kurdish military source as saying.

A third bomber also failed to set off his explosives and was killed by security forces.

The exact number of casualties is still unknown.

Following the blasts, clashes broke out between a group of armed men and Kurdish security guards in the area.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attacks, which bear the hallmarks of Daesh terrorists.

The latest terror attacks come as Iraqi forces are engaged in large-scale battles to drive Daesh out of the northern city of Mosul, the terror group’s last remaining bastion in Iraq.

The Iraqi army has the backing of different military groups, including Kurdish Peshmerga forces, in its military push to liberate Mosul.

Daesh has in recent weeks stepped up its terror activities in different parts of Iraq, particularly Baghdad, in revenge for the heavy blows it is taking on the Mosul front.

The UN said in a report earlier this week that the acts of terrorism and violence left nearly 3,000 people dead in Iraq in November.
