Davutoğlu Turkey, Iraq share same policy towards ISIL, PKK

December 26, 2014 By administrator

Davutoglu-Iraq-PMPrime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said Turkey and Iraq follow the same approach towards all terrorist groups in the region on Thursday.

“Turkey will continue to provide all kinds of support to Iraq in the fight against terrorist groups in the region. The two countries share the same approach against those groups, including the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK),” Davutoğlu added.

Addressing a joint press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Thursday, Davutoğlu said Turkey’s main agenda is security and reiterated Turkey’s support for the territorial integrity of Iraq.

When asked about the claims that foreign fighters flow into Syria and Iraq via Turkey, Davutoğlu said Turkey is against this.

“There shouldn’t be any fighters in Syria and Iraq except their own citizens. Turkey is ready to cooperate against foreign fighters,” Davutoğlu added.

Speaking at the press conference, the Iraqi prime minister praised Turkey’s efforts in training Iraqi forces.

Abadi is visiting Turkey on Dec. 25-26 to meet senior Turkish officials and attend the Turkey-Iraq High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting.

Davutoğlu, Kurdish HDP co-chair Demirtaş responsible for any bloodshed:

December 9, 2014 By administrator

n_75421_1Davutoğlu declares that HDP co-chair Demirtaş will be responsible for any violence in protests against a controversial new security package.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has upped the stakes in the Kurdish peace process, declaring that Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş will be responsible for any future bloodshed in the country.

“Our minds have always been clear about the resolution process. We haven’t hesitated. But the statement by Demirtaş saying, ‘We will stop the security package in the streets,’ is very irresponsible,” Davutoğlu was quoted as saying by CNNTürk, speaking to a group of journalists on board a plane returning from Warsaw to Ankara on Dec. 9.

The prime minister’s remarks came in response to an earlier statement by Demirtaş, the co-leader of the HDP, a key player in the Kurdish political movement represented at Parliament, which appeared in daily Bugün earlier in the day.

Demirtaş particularly criticized the controversial new government-led security package, saying “protests in the street” will halt the bill in its tracks. The package, which is still yet to be adopted, would lead to the adoption of a controversial judiciary bill that has stirred angry debate about measures allowing searches to be conducted on the basis of mere “reasonable doubt,” without any concrete evidence.

“I’m warning Demirtaş. If he is saying they will turn the streets into lakes of blood, then he is responsible for each drop of blood to be shed. Public order is a need for everybody – for Demirtaş, too,” Davutoğlu said.

According to Demirtaş, the government is using the deadly Kobane protests of Oct. 6-7 as a pretext for the security package, the implementation of which would result in the “killing of young people who would fall like flies.”

“If you adopt this bill, it will backfire. People will not be scared, and they will take to the streets,” the HDP co-chair said.

The debate between the government and the HDP executives over public order and security was particularly heated after street unrest that peaked on Oct. 6 and 7 and led to the deaths of dozens of people in clashes between rival groups. The unrest followed protests over the government’s perceived inaction toward Syrian Kurds besieged by jihadists in the town of Kobane.

Athens, Demonstrations banned in down town Athens on Friday and Saturday

December 5, 2014 By administrator

12A11A2672071EF0C1E0C4051FC1BB8FThe ban due to the visit of Turkish PM Davutoglu is effective from 6am on Friday until 3pm on Saturday

The Police announced that demonstrations in the city center of Athens are banned for public safety concerns, between 6am on Friday and 3pm on Saturday.

The ban was introduced due to the upcoming visit of Turkish Prime Minister Ahmed Davutoglu, as part of the Supreme Council of Cooperation between Greece and Turkey that is scheduled to take place in Athens. About 6,000 to 7,000 police officers are set to be deployed in the streets of Athens in order to prevent any disturbances.

Aside from the top-level political meeting though on Saturday, there are concerns over the anniversary of the murder of Alexis Grigoropoulos, which could result in major disturbances. The hunger strike of Nikos Romanos, Grigoropoulos’ best friend, may also exacerbate the situation, as indicated by a recent solidarity demonstration which resulted in clashes between police and anarchists in Exarchia.

Turkish navy to conduct exercises in the Aegean during talks

December 3, 2014 By administrator

Davutoglu-NATO-ISISTurkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu is due in Athens for talks on Friday amid a tense atmosphere between Greece and Turkey, which has been exacerbated by the neighboring country’s decision to carry out naval exercises in the Aegean while discussions take place in the Greek capital.

Turkish ships and submarines have been conducting exercises in the northern and southeastern Aegean, near the Greek islands of Limnos, Kastelorizo, Ro and Strongyli since the start of the week. Although the operations had been planned much earlier, the maritime order (also known as a Navtex) marking out the area was only issued last week, suggesting that Turkey intended for the exercises to take place at the same time as leaders are due to meet in Athens for the two-day High-Level Cooperation Council.

Greek authorities have also noted an increase in the number of incursions into Greek air space by Turkish fighter jets over the past few days. There have been more than 20 since the start of the week.

Athens was hoping that its agreement for the meetings to take place would lead to a de-escalation in tensions between the two countries, which were ratcheted up when a Turkish research vessel Barbaros entered Cyprus’s exclusive economic zone in October.

Cypriot Foreign Minister Yiannis Kasoulides told Kathimerini on Wednesday that Nicosia is hoping that the cooperation council will help lead to the resumption of reunification talks on the island, which were abandoned when the Barbaros sailed into the Cypriot maritime zone. He added that his government had been disappointed by Washington’s suggestion that hydrocarbons issues should be part of the agenda negotiated at this stage with the Turkish Cypriots.

“The US interventions have not helped to ease the tension,” he said. “Washington is trying unnecessarily to introduce the common management of hydrocarbons, which is unacceptable for us.”

Turkey’s neo-ottoman architect Davutoğlu to build Balkans’ largest mosque in Tirana

October 27, 2014 By administrator

Turkey’s Directorate for Religious Affairs (Diyanet) has announced plans to build the largest mosque in the Balkans, in the Albanian capital Tirana, citing the low capacity in the city’s sole existing mosque.

Only 60 people are able to worship at the same time in the Et’hem Bey Mosque, despite the fact that 70 percent of Tirana’s population of over 300,000 is Muslim, İsmail Palakoğlu, the head of the Diyanet Foundation (TDV), told state-run Anadolu Agency on Oct. 27. Palakoğlu said they planned to build the new mosque on one hectare of land.

People are worshipping in the Tirana Square during holidays because the Et’hem Bey Mosque is not big enough, he said. “There is difficulty during rainy weather. But in the new mosque, which will have four minarets, 4,500 people will be able to pray,” he added.

Palakoğlu said the license procedure was still ongoing, but added that they planned to complete the construction of the mosque within two to three years.

Following Turkey’s presidential election in late August, incoming Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu brought the Diyanet under his subordination as part of reassignments in the new Cabinet. Though previously subordinated to another ministry, the Diyanet is the highest religious authority in Turkey, which despite being a Muslim majority country has been a secular state since the 1920s.

The TDV has been involved in a number of high profile activities abroad this year, paying the wages of imams in the flood-hit Bosnia and Herzegovina in addition to restoring mosques and other religious buildings that were damaged in the flood.

Turkey Davutoğlu outlines locations for potential (annexation) of Syria

October 16, 2014 By administrator

Turkish Prime Minister Davutoğlu has told Al-Jazeera Arabic that ‘safe zones’ against ISIL on Syria’s border with Turkey should protect ‘areas with n_73054_1populations over a certain density,’ marking a large region from the Mediterranean to Iraq’s border, (neo-ottoman border)

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has clarified the locations of possible internationally sanctioned safe zones near Syria’s border with Turkey, outlining a line stretching from the Mediterranean to Iraq.

“The buffer zone we mean here is not a military definition, but a humanitarian safe zone under military protection,” Davutoğlu said in an interview with Al-Jazeera Arabic on Oct. 15.

After noting that safe zones should protect “areas with populations over a certain density,” the Turkish PM mentioned the need to connect the Turkish border with northern Latakia, “certain areas in al-Hasakah,” as well as Jarabulus, Ayn-al Arab (Kobane), Tel Abyad, Idlib and Afrin to protect Syria’s Arabs, Kurds and Turkmens.

Davutoğlu stressed that the depth of the safe zone could change according to varying humanitarian situations in these areas, but he reiterated that Turkey would not take the risk of intervention alone.

“United Nations Security Council can’t take any decisions due to certain vetoes. Then, the international coalition that was created for an intervention in Syria and the coalition of the willing can take certain decisions and provide air protection [for the safe zone],” he said, recalling the internationally sanctioned no-fly zone in Saddam Hussein-era Iraq.

The Turkish government has faced international and domestic pressure as Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants have advanced toward Kobane, but Davutoğlu countered the criticism by slamming his critics.

“The fall of Ayn-al Arab could really sadden us, and we will do everything to stop it, but where were they when Raqqa [the stronghold of ISIL] fell? Where where they when Jarabulus, Mosul fell?” he said.

Davutoglu is doing everythings to Divide Kurds, by saying (PYD ‘torturing’ Kobani Kurds)

October 14, 2014 By administrator

Davutoglu-NATO-ISISThe master of false flag operation Davutoglu is again trying to divide the Kurds. picture by gagrulenet

October 14, 2014

ISTANBUL,— Turkey on Tuesday accused the biggest Kurdish political party in Syrian Kurdistan of “torturing” Syrian Kurds who fled to Turkey when Islamic State jihadists launched their assault on the border town of Kobani.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said the refugees had fled to Turkey “to escape pressure” from the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), which is affiliated with Turkey’s outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

“Our brothers came here to escape pressure from PYD. They put a great deal of pressure on those in Kobani who don’t share their opinion,” Davutoglu told lawmakers from his Islamic-rooted Justice and Development Party (AKP).

“Where were you when the PYD was oppressing some of the Kurds?” he asked the international community.

Davutoglu give further details on the torture allegations. Before the IS advance, the PYD enjoyed control over much of Kurdish-populated northern Syria.

“It’s not about Kobani. It’s about piling pressure on Turkey through Kobani,” Davutoglu said.

“But Turkey has no appetite for adventures just because some people wanted unless the international community does its part to find an integrated solution (for Kobani),” Davutoglu said.

Davutoğlu is again playing false-flag operation on Greece PM for tea meeting in Cyprus

September 16, 2014 By administrator

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has suggested that he and his Greek counterpart, Antonis Samaras, should meet for a spot of tea on both sides of Cyprus to find a solution to the divided island’s longstanding problems.

“If Mr. Greek Prime Minister [Samaras] is ready, we can first go to the southern [Greek] side of the island, drink tea together and have a chat. Then we can go to the northern side and again spend time together,” he said during his official visit to Turkish Cyprus after being elected, as visiting Cyprus as a first foreign destination is a tradition for presidents and Turkish prime ministers.

“The Mediterranean Sea has been the common sea for many civilizations,” Davutoğlu said in a joint press meeting with Turkish Cypriot President Derviş Eroğlu, calling on Samaras to jointly build peace there.

Turkey wanted to sit together with northern Cyprus, southern Cyprus and Greece to discuss how to develop peace in the region but this was not well-received, he said.

The latest talks started on Feb. 11 with a joint declaration by Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders, as hydrocarbon discoveries seem like a game-changer that could bring the parties closer to a solution. Still, security, property rights, and power-sharing are still on the table.

Davutoğlu also urged Greek Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiadis to take action for peace as fast as possible. “I am calling on Mr. Anastasiadis,” he said. “Let’s make peace right now, not tomorrow but today, not next week but this week, not next year but this year. All delayed solutions are deepening the deadlock.”

Turkish Cyprus has reached democratic maturity in its 40-year struggle and 30-year experience as a state, Davutoğlu said.

An ongoing fresh water project is one indicator of Turkey’s support for northern Cyprus, he also said.
The Turkish Cypriot leader was scheduled to meet Anastasiadis for the first time since July 7. Davutoğlu noted that “his precious friend,” former Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, would accompany them as a United Nations representative. “Thus, there lies an opportunity to make a nice start,” he said.

Eide, the new United Nations envoy for Cyprus, said earlier this month that he would unveil new ideas on nudging forward faltering talks aimed at reunifying the ethnically divided island.

Barth said talks had not gone as expected when the island’s rival leaders agreed on a joint declaration in February that inaugurated a fresh round of negotiations.

He said U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon wanted to see talks make headway so that the decades-old dispute could finally be resolved.

Before Davutoğlu, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also visited the island after being elected on Aug. 10, pledging solidarity.
