The milk production should be not only homemade but also should be produced by large companies as far as the Armenian cattle-breeding has all the grounds for progress, told today the director of sociological center “Sociometer” Aharon Adibekyan.
According to him the cheese and the dairy food may become a “white gold” for Armenia because there are unique geographical conditions for development of that field. Armenia has all the possibilities to produce Swiss “Emental” cheese the kilogram of which costs 50-60 dollars. Besides that there are some types of Armenian cheese that are very famous in Europe, like “Lori”, “Chanakh”, “Chechil”, Adibekyan believes.
“Official approach is needed in this sphere. The state should promote the cheese production by providing them cheaper credits in order to export our cheese,” Adibekyan said and added that the companies who export their goods should have corresponding certificates which will cost them 100 to 150 thousand dollars.
“The state support here is very important. The taste of Armenian cheese does not yield to any other country’s cheese. However, we are not presenting our production to the world. It’s high time to turn from importing country to exporting one,” he said.
By the decree of the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan Zakir Hasanov Colonel Seyran Gafarov has been dismissed from the Armed Forces of the country. He worked at the Military Academy of the border troops. Now he is forbidden to serve in the Azerbaijani army because of his mother’s Armenian origin, the website “Axar.az” reports.
Colonel Gafarov has officially admitted the fact that his mother was Armenian. Azerbaijani press has long discussed the issue of how it is possible to allow the “enemies” who can easily “spy” serve in the armed forces.
Before that fact the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry denied that there is an Azerbaijani army colonel called Gafarov, as well as the fact of the service of Major General Bagir Fatullaev who, being a citizen of Russian Federation, had moved to St. Petersburg together with his family and was dismissed because of that.
A pre-planned attack, motivated by ethnic and religious hatred, was perpetrated on the representatives of the Armenian Church of Surb Etchmiadzin in Tbilisi, the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church in Georgia said.
According to the Democracy and Freedom Watch, on July 19, at around 4 pm, a provocation was organized on the church-adjacent territory.
A woman was trying to drive her car out of the area adjacent to the church, but was unsuccessful and started to express dissatisfaction towards the cleric at the Armenian Church claiming his car was blocking the way for her own to car in the parking area.
At that moment, two aggressively disposed men approached and helped to get the car out. The cleric entered the administrative building of Armenian Church.
Then there were young deacons in the yard, who heard that the men were verbally insulting Armenians. They protested. A man left the car, took a baton and a stone and again insulted and attempted to hit the representatives of the Armenian Diocese.
Hearing a noise from outside, other clerics came out into the yard in order to defuse the situation, when the man hit one of clerics on his back. A short fight followed.
Two hours after the incident, the man returned with a group of about 50 men. Some of them were armed with cold weapons. They approached the church and got into a scuffle with the clerics and employees of the diocese, while verbally insulting Armenians. People attending a Christening ceremony inside the church came out into the yard and the men attacked them too.
“Women and children, shocked by what they had seen, hid in the church,” the statement reads.
As a result of the attack, clerics and employees of the Armenian Diocese got physical injuries. One of the men tore a cross off one priest and walked away with it.
The Armenian Church called on law enforcement bodies to thoroughly investigate the Saturday incident as a crime committed on ethnic and religious grounds.
The Armenian Church called on the media to avoid promoting anti-Armenian attitudes in society, urging Georgia’s Orthodox Church to publicly condemn any actions based on ethnic and religious hatred.
“For many centuries, we have been concerned with the internal stability of Georgia and interethnic and interreligious relations, and we call on the Georgian government to take all necessary measures in order to avoid ethnic and religious separation of Georgian society.”
The situation continues to remain tense in Syria’s Armenian populated city of Aleppo.
Tert.am’s sources report that mortar mines and makeshift rockets made of gas balloons are released in different districts every day.
Several neighborhoods still remain cut off water supply, but the problem has been resolved in most parts of the city.
Frequent outages of electric power make the situation more complicated in conditions of the extreme heat.
No human losses were reported in the Armenian neighborhoods over the recent days, but their population is said to have suffered huge material damages.
The new Armenian ambassador to the U.S. Tigran Sargsyan handed his credentials to President Barack Obama Monday, July 14.
At the ceremony, the envoy hailed the effectiveness of the Armenia-U.S. ties, pledging to contribute to further development of the bilateral relations.
The U.S. President, in turn, expressed confidence that the ambassador will put his experience to best use in helping to expand bilateral ties. Obama welcomed cooperation with Armenia in the framework of peacemaking missions, strengthening of democracy and economic development.
He also gave high assessment to Armenia’s efforts to achieve peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the foreign ministry press service reported.
In early April, the vice speaker of the parliament Eduard Sharmazanov announced resignation of Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.
Sharmazanov said Sargsyan submitted resignation a month ago, however the President insisted that the PM should not leave the post unless the Constitutional Court rules on the controversial pension reform.
In a Facebook post, Sargsyan said it was a well-considered decision while Sharmazanov said personal issues were involved as well.
Tigran Sargsyan occupied the Prime Minister’s post from April 2008 to April 2013.
From 1998 to 2008 he served as the chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia.

BATMAN – Doğan News Agency
In the ruins of the Surp Asvadavin Mother Mary Church, which is located on Mount Mereto in the eastern province of Batman’s Sason district, a historical tablet and some historical artifacts have been discovered. The tablet and pieces were delivered to the Batman Museum Directorate.
The ruins of the Armenian church, some part of which was damaged in 2012, were cleaned by the Istanbul-based Sason Armenians Association Chairman Aziz Dağcı with 10 people. They found the historic pieces during the cleaning.
He said they had removed the ruins for restoration under the surveillance of Batman Museum officials. “When we removed the ruins, we found a big tablet with Armenian writing on it. We also found historical horseshoes and some Armenian historical figures,” Dağcı said, adding they had delivered them to the Batman Museum.
The historical pieces will be examined in the Istanbul Armenian Patriarchate, he said. “Our goal is to restore this church, which collapsed two years ago. The church is located on the peak of the 2,973-meter-high Mount Mereto. We estimate that these remains date back to 2,000 years ago. We also applied to the Batman Governor’s Office for the construction of a different road to the church,” he said.

Sydney will host a lecture on destroyed khachkars of Nakhichevan Friday, July 11, Armenian National Committee of Australia reported.
The 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide Commemorative Committee (100th AGCC) announced a lecture evening with special guest, Dr. Judith Crispin.
Crispin is a Director at Manning Clark House (MCH), a noted and respected Australian ‘think tank’ based in Canberra, named after the leading historian, Manning Clark.
In November 2013, MCH began working on a ground-breaking project to digitally recreate the ancient Armenian cemetery at Djulfa. The Djulfa cemetery, which is located in the border area between Iran and Nakhichevan, was once home to more than 10,000 khachkars, traditional Armenian cross-stones, which dated back to the 15th century.
In 2005, the military of Azerbaijan began a systematic campaign to finally rid the Julfa cemetery of all the Armenian khachkars by conducting destroying operations in the area. The international community condemned these attacks, however the cemetery could not be salvaged.
A document submitted by an international parliamentary delegation to UNSECO noted that “given the impossibility of any reconstruction of the destroyed site and its khachkars – now literally pulverised – and in consideration of the fact that under the surface there are still the buried bodies of people to whose memory the former khachkars had been erected, we suggest to transform this gross act of out-spoken hatred into a positive step towards confidence-building and reconciliation.”
Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee of Australia, Vache Kahramanian, stated: “We are delighted that Manning Clark House has undertaken this remarkable project. As a partner on this project, ANC Australia looks forward to working with Dr. Crispin and her team to make this project a success.”
Crispin will provide graphic evidence from her recent trip to the region, and advise specific details of MCH’s recreation project.

Missile attacks on Syria’s Aleppo left 2 (Vrezh Chapaghjurian and Seda Basmajian) dead and 6 injured on June 17.
In early June, Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) launched a #Save Aleppo campaign calling President Obama to stop anti-Armenian attacks in Syria.
Attacks on the Armenian-populated quarters of Aleppo, Syria, have escalated in recent days, leading local authorities to designate the area a disaster zone.
The campaign aims to urge President Obama to stop the rebel bombing of innocent Christians and all civilians in Aleppo, press Turkey to allow the free flow of Euphrates waters to Syria, answer the ANCA’s concerns regarding Turkey’s role in the forced depopulation of the historically Armenian populated city of Kessab.
