Armenia, just like numerous other countries in the world, observes International Women’s Day on March 8.
On this day, the women’s accomplishments in all walks of life are recognized, and their past, present and future are acknowledged.
Marking women’s day, however, does not aim to establish an equality among genders, but rather it is considered a day of focusing on women and their role.
By the decision of the United Nations, International Women’s Day received official status on 1975.
Marking March 8 was formally banned in the first years of Armenia’s independence; instead, April 7 was celebrated in the country as Motherhood and Beauty Day, which is observed to this day.
But years later, the tradition of celebrating March 8 was reborn, and it is again a public holiday in Armenia.
Armenian News-NEWS.am extends its congratulations to all the women and girls, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
