The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on Saturday killed two soldiers and injured two others in an attack that targeted their civilian car in the tense Cizre district of southeastern Şırnak, while a police officer was killed in another attack by the terrorists in the Sur district of Diyarbakır.

The attack in Cizre took place in front of a car mechanic, where there was a group of soldiers in plainclothes changing their car. A group of terrorists drove by and opened fire on the soldiers with automatic rifles. The gunmen fled the scene immediately after the attack.

Four soldiers were injured in the attack and were rushed to the Cizre State Hospital. Two of the injured soldiers, sergeant Mehmet Burak Demirci and specialized sergeant Halil Karakuşoğlu, died at the hospital despite medical efforts. The remaining two injured soldiers are still receiving treatment.

Fourteen soldiers wounded in PKK attack in Turkey’s east

October 7, 2015 By administrator

PKK-old-fighterSome 14 soldiers were wounded on Oct. 6 in an attack on a military post by the  Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the eastern province of Van, the Turkish General Staff said in a written statement on Oct. 7.

PKK militants launched an attack with long barreled guns on the Eşmepınar Gendarmerie Post in the Başkale district of Van, close to the Turkish border with Iran, also detonating a bomb-laden vehicle near the post, to which security forces responded with fire.

The statement said 14 soldiers had been wounded in the clashes and were immediately taken to hospital. None of the injuries were reported to be serious.

The statement also said “three terrorists” had been killed in clashes after the attack.

The General Staff said in a separate statement on Oct. 7 that 10 PKK militants had been killed after trying to break into the Aktütün Border Battalion Command Post in the southeastern province of Hakkari’s Şemdinli district.

The statement read that the militants had tried to infiltrate into the military post from three separate spots simultaneously but were prevented from doing so as the soldiers responded with fire.

Meanwhile, a military operation has been ongoing since Oct. 6 in the eastern province of Kars’ Kağızman district, with multiple armored vehicles being sent to the region for support for the operation against the PKK.

Commandoes with special ammunition were deployed with choppers at places on the escape routes of the PKK militants, state-run Anadolu Agency reported, adding that three PKK militants were killed in the first day of the operation in Kağızman and three were captured alive.

On the same day, a total of 18 people have been detained in anti-terror raids in the eastern province of Siirt and the southern province of Mersin.

Nine people, including Kurdish problem-oriented Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) deputy candidate İkram Vural, were detained in Mersin on allegations of “organizing events in the name of a terror organization,” “forming the structure of the terror organization inside the city,” and “making propaganda in favor of the organization.”

In Siirt’s Eruh district, nine other people were detained in an anti-terror operation on Oct. 7.

HDP Eruh District Co-Chair Nimet Dayan and a number of district heads of the Democratic Union Party (DBP) were among the detained suspects.

Four Turkish soldiers killed, seven wounded in PKK attacks, curfew imposed

October 1, 2015 By administrator

229903Two soldiers were gunned down by Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)  as they left for work on Thursday in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, while two others died in clashes between Turkish security forces and PKK terrorists in Mardin’s Nusaybin and Şırnak‘s Beytüşşebap districts on Thursday. Report Zaman

As the PKK-related tension in southeastern Turkey continues to grow with every passing day, Turkey witnessed another series of clashes between the terrorist group and Turkish security forces during which four soldiers were martyred.

In Mardin’s Nusaybin district, one soldier was killed and six others were injured on Thursday morning when members of the PKK opened fire on troops guarding fellow soldiers who were checking a road in the southeastern province of Hakkari. The wounded soldiers were reportedly taken to a military hospital in Mardin by helicopter.

The Mardin Governor’s Office declared a curfew, as of 5 p.m., in the district where the first attack took place in the early hours of the morning. The wounded personnel are not in life-threatening condition, the office added.

According to several media outlets, a group of terrorists fired long-barreled weapons against troops who were guarding other soldiers checking the Mardin-Kızıltepe highway and the troops returned fire.

Two F-16 fighter jets were reportedly dispatched to the area and an operation, supported by drones, an attack helicopter and a reinforcement unit, was launched to find PKK members in the area.

According to the Cihan news agency, one terrorist was “rendered ineffective” in coordinated operations that followed the attack, and the PKK casualties were expected to increase as security operations, backed by Turkish Air Force warplanes, helicopters and drones were still ongoing.

In yet another attack in the city in the afternoon, one soldier was killed and another was wounded injured in Şırnak’s Beytüşşebap district, after PKK terrorists detonated a bomb while a military vehicle was passing late on Thursday. The injured soldier was taken to a nearby hospital and an air operation has been launched in the area to find the assailants.

In addition, two other soldiers were killed by PKK militants in Diyarbakır early on Thursday.

After a suicide bomber carried out an attack in the Suruç district of Şanlıurfa on July 20, killing 33 activists and injuring more than 100 people, PKK-related tension in southeastern Turkey has grown over the past month. Two police officers were shot in the head by PKK members in retaliation for the Suruç terrorist attack on July 22. The violence and PKK-led attacks further escalated when Turkey carried out air strikes against PKK bases in neighboring Iraq.

More than 100 security personnel and hundreds of PKK members have been killed since the collapse of a cease-fire with the PKK in July. The renewed hostilities have left efforts to establish long-term peace in ruins, and have sparked some of the worst recent clashes in a three-decades-long conflict.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said this week that up to 2,000 militants from the PKK have been killed in recent military operations inside Turkey and in northern Iraq.

The Turkish military said on Monday that 16 soldiers were killed and six others were wounded in a clash over the weekend that erupted following an attack by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Dağlıca area of Hakkari.

According to reports, the clash began at around 3 p.m. on Sunday and pro-PKK websites reported on it at around 7 p.m. The news of the ambush and the ensuing clash was not reported on by Turkish news agencies until 9 p.m.

The private Cihan news agency reported that the clash erupted after PKK terrorists remotely detonated landmines planted beforehand while two armored military vehicles were passing, and opened fire on the vehicles at the same time. Helicopters and special forces backed up the troops during the clash, which lasted for many hours, according to Cihan.

The clash marks a crescendo in a deadly stream of attacks since July, which officials said had already claimed the lives of at least 70 members of the security services and hundreds of PKK terrorists.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization in both Europe and the United States.

Both sides, the Turkish government and the PKK. blame the other for the collapse of the cease-fire in July, which has left efforts to bring a lasting end to the Kurdish issue in tatters.

The location of the ambush had painful symbolism for the Turkish armed forces. It took place near the village of Dağlıca, the scene of a PKK attack in 2007 in which 12 soldiers were killed and eight captured.

Turkey: Two police officers killed, three wounded in PKK attack in Diyarbakır

September 6, 2015 By administrator

plc.thumbTwo police officers were killed and three colleagues were injured early Sept. 6 in an armed action by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in response to continued operations by security services against the militant group’s youth wing in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır.

Police forces conducted operations against members of the Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H) early Sept. 6 in the central district of Sur to cover trenches that have been dug by locals to protect residents against attacks by security forces.

Members of the YDG-H responded to the operations with rocket-propelled grenades, killing two police officers and wounding three others.

A number of people were also detained as part of the operation, while citizens were warned not to leave their houses.

Gunfire and the sounds of bombs were occasionally heard in the neighborhood.

Meanwhile the Diyarbakır Governor’s Office has declared a curfew in the district until further notice.

Diyarbakir: 2 Turkish soldiers killed, three injured in bomb blast

Two more Turkish soldiers have lost their lives and three others sustained injuries in a roadside bomb blast in the southeastern province of Hakkari.

The incident happened after a military convoy on Monday hit a roadside bomb in the Semdinli district in the province.

The bombs were allegedly planted by militants from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

The explosion brings to three the number of Turkish troopers killed over the past 24 hours.

On Sunday, a soldier was killed and three others were wounded in an exchange of fire with suspected PKK militants in the southeastern Diyarbakir Province.

Clashes have been going on on a daily basis between the PKK and Turkish armed forces since Turkey launched airstrikes against PKK positions in Iraq and Turkey as well as purported Daesh (ISIL) targets in Syria.

A shaky ceasefire that had stood since 2013 was declared as null by the PKK following the Turkish airstrikes against the group, narrowing chances of the two sides reaching a deal in the near future.

According to figures published Saturday by Turkey’s state-run Anatolia news agency, some 812 PKK militants have been killed in the campaign while 56 members of the Turkish security forces have lost their lives.

Turkey started its air strikes after a Daesh bomb attack on July 20 left 32 people dead in the southeastern Turkish town of Suruc near Syria border.

The air raids have, however, significantly concentrated on the Kurdish militants.

The PKK has been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region inside Turkey since the 1980s. The conflict has left tens of thousands of people dead.
