George Clooney and wife Amal celebrate birth of twins and reveal their names

June 6, 2017 By administrator

George Clooney and wife Amal celebrate birth of twins and reveal their namesA rep for the actor confirmed that everyone is “healthy, happy and doing fine” after the births this morning.

George Clooney‘s wife Amal has given birth to twins.

The actor and his human rights lawyer wife welcomed their son Alexander Clooney and daughter Ella Clooney on Tuesday, June 6.

A rep for the couple told ET Online : “This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives. Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine.

The spokesperson then joked: “George is sedated and should recover in a few days.”

It was clear last week that the twins’ births were imminent as George pulled out of attending the £850,000 Aurora Prize event he co-founded, saying he couldn’t leave Amal’s side in case she gave birth and he wasn’t there.

Skipping the awards, he said by video link: “If I came and my wife had twins while I was away I could never come home.”

It was George’s own mother who first revealed the couple’s twins would be a boy and a girl.

Speaking earlier this year, his mum Nina said: “It will be one of each! Yes, a boy and a girl. That’s what I’ve been told.

“How marvellous! My husband and I are extremely excited.”

And George is already ready for nappy duty, pointing out in a recent interview that he played a paediatrician for years on medical drama E.R. so is well aware of how to change a dirty nappy.

“Hang on for a minute! I played a paediatrician on ER so I know how to work on extra children,” the actor explained to E! News.

“If there are any accidents, I’m there. I’m the guy.”

George previously said the couple would not choose names for their twins until the births.

He said: “No we haven’t picked out any names and I’ll tell you why. Because I’ve had friends pick out names around their parents and then it becomes …

“Whatever name you pick they’re like, ‘Oh, I don’t like that. That guy’s a prime minister’ ‘Can’t name her Susan. You remember your Aunt Susan?'”

In March, George said that Amal was “doing really great” during pregnancy.

“She is doing really great. She is amazing. I don’t have anything to do. There is nothing I can do to help, but make tea and stuff,” he told Extra .

George added: “I know swaddling… I know what I’m in for.”

George Clooney on the Armenian Genocide: One cannot deny what happened

April 23, 2016 By administrator

f571b3731ba440_571b3731ba47d.thumbCo-Chair of the Aurora Prize George Clooney who is also present at the Second Global Forum against the Crime of Genocide, happening at Karen Demirchyan Complex thanked Ruben Vardayan for inviting him.

“This is my first visit to Armenia. I’m really excited to be here and participate in this event,” said Clooney.
Associate editor for The Washington Post, David Ignatius asked Clooney what made him come to Armenia and attend the Global Forum against the Crime of Genocide.

Clooney said that he was born in a time when people had to fight for their rights, and he was brought up on those principles. He also said that after reading about the Darfur Genocide, he has decided to use his fame to help those who suffered through the horrors of genocide.

According to Clooney, considering genocides massacres is wrong but one needs a long time to acknowledge it.
“It took a long and hard battle to finally call the things by their names. Everything is difficult, but [it happens] in time. You cannot deny what happened. You cannot bring back an entire race. [Destroying] people’s culture is genocide,” Clooney added.

He also noted that Vardan, Ruben and Nubar’s initiative aims at two things, to look back and never forget what happened, because that is part of not only Armenian but also world history, and to look ahead.

To remind, the Aurora Prize hosts the Aurora Dialogues – a series of insightful discussions between leading humanitarians, academics, philanthropists and media experts on some of today’s most pressing global challenges held within the scopes and under the patronage of the Second Global Forum against the Crime of Genocide.

The Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity will be granted annually to an individual whose actions have had an exceptional impact on preserving human life and advancing humanitarian causes.

The Aurora Prize Laureate will be honored with a US $100,000 grant. In addition, that individual will have the unique opportunity to continue the cycle of giving by nominating organizations that inspired their work to receive a US $1,000,000 award.

The Aurora Prize will be awarded annually on April 24 in Yerevan, Armenia.

George Clooney: There was Armenian Genocide, no argument about it

October 27, 2015 By administrator

Clooney-it is Genocide

George Clooney

Famous actor George Clooney said there was genocide in Armenia in 1915, and there is no argument about it.

“Now, history has changed and the Turks don’t want to talk about it anymore. And because we have military bases in [Turkey], suddenly those same politicians who before could say, ‘Yes, there was a genocide,’ can’t talk about it now,” Clooney said in an interview with The Frame on Southern California Public Radio.

Clooney said the actor cannot make policy, but can really “make moments louder that matter to you”.

“I’ve had conversations with senators where I’ll say, “Can we talk about the Armenian Genocide?” and they’ll say, “Absolutely not, because Turkey is our partner in the war on terror,” he added.

NEW YORK–The 100 LIVES initiative is launching today, featuring the announcement of the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity. The initiative expresses gratitude to the individuals and institutions whose heroic actions saved Armenian lives during the Genocide 100 years ago.

The purpose of the 100 LIVES initiative is to address the issues of genocide, human rights violations and the power of positive action through three key elements:

Learning from the past by issuing a global call to unearth the untold stories of survivors and saviors from the Armenian Genocide that will be brought to life on 100LIVES.com;

Delivering for the present by introducing the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity, a new global humanitarian award that will be given to people who put themselves at risk to enable others to survive and thrive; and

Shaping a better future by administering Gratitude Projects to organizations and in communities that played a prominent role in saving Armenian lives a century ago.

The 100 LIVES initiative was founded by international businessmen and philanthropists Ruben Vardanyan and Noubar Afeyan and humanitarian Vartan Gregorian to demonstrate the impact of the Armenian Genocide and how many of the survivors and their families went on to lead successful lives making significant contributions to global culture, the arts, sports, science and business.

“The humanity, generosity, strength and sacrifice shown by those who saved so many Armenians compels us to tell these stories,” said Ruben Vardanyan, co-founder of 100 LIVES. “Now is the time to shine a light on those most extraordinary lives, to build on the lessons they teach us, and to express our gratitude for what they did.”

Along with honoring past survivors and saviors, the program will establish the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity as a means to empower modern-day saviors. The annual grant of $1 million will be awarded to a recipient who will, in turn, present it to the organization identified as the inspiration for their action.

The Aurora Prize brings together leading human rights luminaries from around the world including Academy Award winner George Clooney, Nobel Peace Prize winners Elie Wiesel and Oscar Arias, former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson, UN Secretary-General Advisor on Genocide, Gareth Evans, globally respected human rights activist Hina Jilani and President of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, Vartan Gregorian, to serve on its Selection Committee. Mr Clooney will award the inaugural Prize at a ceremony to be held in Yerevan, Armenia on 24 April, 2016.
