Yerevan among 10 most affordable hubs for digital nomads

August 22, 2016 By administrator

digital-nomandsArmenia‘s capital city, Yerevan was included in the list of 10 hubs compiled by American business magazine Fast Company which are gaining in popularity with self-employed travelers.

“Located in western Asia, Armenia is one of the world’s oldest inhabited places. Due to a recent economic upturn in Yerevan, the streets are now filled with restaurants and cafes that are perfect for working remotely,” the magazine says.

“Pour yourself a bottle of $4 Armenian pomegranate wine and snack on Ararat Valley apricots as you discover a stunning city.”

“Armenia is on the map for our work-abroad plans,” says Derek Merdinyan of Video Igniter. “The low cost of travel and living expenses helps our bottom line, and I get an excuse to visit the place my great-grandparents came from.”

Fast Company’s recommendations are based on NomadList’s own survey which recommends cities around the globe as affordable home bases for digital nomads, each with a cost of living falling below $1,250 a month.

According to NomadList, cost of living, safety, places to work from, fun, quality of life and female friendliness are among the advantages of working remotely from Yerevan, while air quality still needs improvement.

Also included in Fast Company’s list are Bangkok (Thailand), Chiang Mai (Thailand), Taipei (Taiwan), Ubud (Bali, Indonesia), Phuket (Thailand), Johor Bahru (Malaysia), Belgrade (Serbia), Quito (Ecuador) and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam).
