George Clooney and wife Amal celebrate birth of twins and reveal their names

June 6, 2017 By administrator

George Clooney and wife Amal celebrate birth of twins and reveal their namesA rep for the actor confirmed that everyone is “healthy, happy and doing fine” after the births this morning.

George Clooney‘s wife Amal has given birth to twins.

The actor and his human rights lawyer wife welcomed their son Alexander Clooney and daughter Ella Clooney on Tuesday, June 6.

A rep for the couple told ET Online : “This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives. Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine.

The spokesperson then joked: “George is sedated and should recover in a few days.”

It was clear last week that the twins’ births were imminent as George pulled out of attending the £850,000 Aurora Prize event he co-founded, saying he couldn’t leave Amal’s side in case she gave birth and he wasn’t there.

Skipping the awards, he said by video link: “If I came and my wife had twins while I was away I could never come home.”

It was George’s own mother who first revealed the couple’s twins would be a boy and a girl.

Speaking earlier this year, his mum Nina said: “It will be one of each! Yes, a boy and a girl. That’s what I’ve been told.

“How marvellous! My husband and I are extremely excited.”

And George is already ready for nappy duty, pointing out in a recent interview that he played a paediatrician for years on medical drama E.R. so is well aware of how to change a dirty nappy.

“Hang on for a minute! I played a paediatrician on ER so I know how to work on extra children,” the actor explained to E! News.

“If there are any accidents, I’m there. I’m the guy.”

George previously said the couple would not choose names for their twins until the births.

He said: “No we haven’t picked out any names and I’ll tell you why. Because I’ve had friends pick out names around their parents and then it becomes …

“Whatever name you pick they’re like, ‘Oh, I don’t like that. That guy’s a prime minister’ ‘Can’t name her Susan. You remember your Aunt Susan?'”

In March, George said that Amal was “doing really great” during pregnancy.

“She is doing really great. She is amazing. I don’t have anything to do. There is nothing I can do to help, but make tea and stuff,” he told Extra .

George added: “I know swaddling… I know what I’m in for.”

New York Times: A new study confirms the date of Moses of Khoren for the birth of Armenia

March 15, 2015 By administrator

arton109080-480x280An article in the New York Times this week quoted the latest genome analysis proving the date of birth of Armenia claimed by a former Armenian historian.

“Moses of Khoren, historian of the fifth century, wrote that his native Armenia was established in 2492 BC, a date usually considered legendary although he claimed to have traveled to Babylon and consulted old documents. But is he lucky or he really had access to useful data because a new genome analysis suggests that this date is entirely plausible, “wrote Nocholas Wade in the New York Times on March 10.

According to the article, geneticists have scanned the genomes of 173 Armenians from Armenia and Lebanon and compared them with those of 78 other people around the world.

“They found that the Armenians are a mixture of ancient populations whose descendants now live in Sardinia, Central Asia and many other regions. This mixture occurred from 3000 to 2000 BC have calculated geneticists which coincides with the date proposed by Moses of Khoren for the foundation of Armenia, “says the article.

“This study confirms the DNA in outline much of what we know about Armenian history,” says Hovann Simonian, a historian of Armenia affiliated with the University of Southern California by city The New York Times.

“Towards the end of the Bronze Age, when the mixture was underway, there was considerable movement of peoples caused by increased trade, war and population growth. After 1200 BC, the civilizations of the Eastern Mediterranean Bronze Age have suddenly collapsed, an event that appears to have caused the isolation of Armenians by other populations. No significant mixing with other people after this date can not be detected in the genomes Armenians say geneticists “according to the New York Times.

“The isolation was probably supported by many characteristic aspects of Armenian culture. Armenians have a language and a distinctive alphabet, and the Armenian Apostolic Church was the first branch of Christianity to be established as a state religion in 301, before the Roman Empire in the year 380 “adds the article states that” researchers also see a genetic divergence signal that developed there about 500 years between the Western and Eastern Armenians. The date corresponds to the onset of wars between the Ottoman and Safavid dynasties and the division of the Armenian population between the Turkish and Persian empires. “

“The genetics team, led by Marc Haber and Chris Tyler-Smith of the Sanger Institute near Cambridge, England, see the isolated populations like the Armenians as a way to reconstruct the history of the people.”

“The Armenians have 29 percent of their DNA ancestry with Otzi, a man whose mummy 5300 years emerged in 1991 from an Alpine glacier. Other genetically isolated populations of the Middle East, as Cypriots, Sephardic Jews and Lebanese Christians also have many ancestry with the Iceman while other Middle Easterners as Turks, Syrians and Palestinians, much less. This indicates that the Armenians and other isolated populations are closer than the present inhabitants of the Middle East Neolithic farmers who brought agriculture in Europe there are about 8,000 years. “

The New York Time: Date of Armenia’s Birth, Given in 5th Century, Gains Credence

March 11, 2015 By administrator

By NICHOLAS WADE  MARCH 10, 2015

Movses Khorenatsi, a historian in the fifth century, wrote that his native Armenia had been established in 2492 B.C., a date usually regarded as legendary though he claimed to have traveled to Babylon and consulted ancient records. But either he made a lucky guess or he really did gain access to useful data, because a new genomic analysis suggests that his date is entirely plausible.

Geneticists have scanned the genomes of 173 Armenians from Armenia and Lebanon and compared them with those of 78 other populations from around the world. They found that the Armenians are a mix of ancient populations whose descendants now live in Sardinia, Central Asia and several other regions. This formative mixture occurred from 3000 to 2000 B.C., the geneticists calculated, coincident with Movses Khorenatsi’s date for the founding of Armenia. NYT

Toward the end of the Bronze Age, when the mixture was in process, there was considerable movement of peoples brought about by increased trade, warfare and population growth. After 1200 B.C., the Bronze Age civilizations of the eastern Mediterranean suddenly collapsed, an event that seems to have brought about the isolation of Armenians from other populations. No significant mixing with other peoples after that date can be detected in the genomes of living Armenians, the geneticists said.

The isolation was probably sustained by the many characteristic aspects of Armenian culture. Armenians have a distinctive language and alphabet, and the Armenian Apostolic Church was the first branch of Christianity to become established as a state religion, in A.D. 301, anticipating that by the Roman empire in A.D. 380.

The researchers also see a signal of genetic divergence that developed about 500 years ago between western and eastern Armenians. The date corresponds to the onset of wars between the Ottoman and Safavid dynasties and the division of the Armenian population between the Turkish and Persian empires.

“This DNA study confirms in general outline much of what we know about Armenian history,” said Hovann Simonian, a historian of Armenia affiliated with the University of Southern California.

The geneticists’ team, led by Marc Haber and Chris Tyler-Smith of the Sanger Institute, near Cambridge in England, see long-isolated populations like that of the Armenians as a means of reconstructing population history.

Armenians share 29 percent of their DNA ancestry with Otzi, a man whose 5,300-year-old mummy emerged in 1991 from a melting Alpine glacier. Other genetically isolated populations of the Near East, like Cypriots, Sephardic Jews and Lebanese Christians, also share a lot of ancestry with the Iceman, whereas other Near Easterners, like Turks, Syrians and Palestinians, share less. This indicates that the Armenians and other isolated populations are closer than present-day inhabitants of the Near East to the Neolithic farmers who brought agriculture to Europe about 8,000 years ago.

The geneticists’ paper was posted last month on bioRxiv, a digital library for publishing scientific articles before they appear in journals. Dr. Tyler-Smith, the senior author of the genetics team, said he could not discuss their results for fear of jeopardizing publication in a journal that he did not name.

Syrian Kurdish woman Giving birth safely over the border, names Obama to say thanks for US airstrikes

October 26, 2014 By administrator

  • Sultan Muslim and her family escaped ISIS’s siege of Kobane and fled to the border
  • After reaching the border town of Suruc, Muslim gave birth to her seventh child and named him Muhammed Obama Muslim
  • The family says they are grateful for coalition airstrikes and hope US assistance will allow them to return home safely
By Pete D’amato for MailOnline

Syrian Kurdish woman Giving birth safely over the borderA pregnant Syrian Kurdish woman who fled ISIS and made it safely to Turkey named her newborn Obama out of gratitude for US-led airstrikes.

Sultan Muslim, her husband and their children were on the run for a month after fleeing the besieged border town of Kobane.

When they arrived at a refugee camp in Suruc, the family welcomed their newest addition and Muslim named him after the American president, because of the US’s air campaign against ISIS.

Newborn: Sultan Muslim, a mother of seven, named her four-day-old child Muhammed Obama Muslim to offer thanks for US assistance in fighting ISIS

‘I gave my son this name from my heart. I will never change this name,’ Muslim told Agence France-Presse, having given birth on Wednesday.

‘He dispatched planes, aid for us. Because of his help maybe we will get rid of this cruelty and get back to our homes,’ she added.

‘We named him Muhammed Obama Muslim,’ said Mahmut Beko, the boy’s father.

‘We want Obama to help us so that we can get back home. We are also human beings. We, the Kurds, attacked whom, fight against whom?’ he asked incredulously.

Brutal fighting between the Islamist extremist group ISIS and Syrian Kurdish militias known as the YPG has engulfed the border town of Kobane as ISIS militants attempt to rout YPG fighters.

A US-led coalition has attacked ISIS forces with airstrikes, which has weakened but not destroyed ISIS fighting power.

We were stranded at the border for days, without water or food,’ said Muslim. ‘We did not take any clothes to wear. We did not have any blankets. I was pregnant and had no chance of taking a bath.’

Many Kurds view American aid as crucial in keeping out the tide of ISIS extremists.

‘Like the Americans, the whole world should help the Kurds in Kobane. We have no true friends other than the Americans,’ said Turkish Kurd Selami Altay.

Along with many other Kurds in the region, Altay watched the fighting in Kobane from a hilltop overlooking Syria.

At the sight of new airstrikes, which have so far reportedly killed more than 500 ISIS fighters, the crowd erupted in cheers and chanted, ‘Obama, Obama.’
