Armenia and Cyprus sign Agreement on Bilateral Military Cooperation Programme

Cyprus Armenia Armenia and Cyprus on Monday signed agreements on Exchange and Mutual Protection of Classified Information, as well as on Bilateral Military Cooperation Programme.

The agreements were signed during the visit of Armenian FM Vigen Sargsyan to Cyprus, in-cyprus.com reports.

The talks between the Armenian Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan and his Cypriot counterpart Christoforos Fokaides were followed by a meeting in an extended format.

Sargsyan will also be received by President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades. Apart from this, he will hold meetings with House President Demetris Syllouris, Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides, and Archbishop of the Church of Cyprus Chrysostomos II.

Armenia and Morocco FMs discuss possibility of expanding bilateral ties

armenian-morocoForeign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian on Thursday met with his Moroccan counterpart Salaheddin Mezouar.

The foreign ministers of the two countries discussed a number of issues on the expansion of bilateral ties, the press-service of the Armenian MFA reports. The importance of intensifying the political dialogue, organizing the visits of high-ranking officials and widening of the legal framework was underscored. Reference was also made to the cooperation in the framework of international structures.

In addition, the ministers exchanged views on a range of issues related to the development of cooperation in the trade and economic, cultural and educational spheres. Furthermore, the sides discussed pressing international and regional issues.

They specifically considered the situation in the Middle East, struggle of the international community against terrorism and problems of migrants.

Apart from this, Nalbandian briefed his counterpart on the efforts exerted by Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs towards the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Armenian, Russian Presidents discuss bilateral ties in Moscow

197025President Serzh Sargsyan met Monday, September 7, with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

According to the website of the Armenian President, the two leaders discussed a broad range of issues concerning bilateral cooperation between Armenia and Russia, particularly focusing on political, economic and humanitarian cooperation, as well as Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

Presidents Sargsyan and Putin also exchanged views on current international and regional problems and challenges, including the Nagorno Karabakh peace process.

As Sargsyan further told Putin, “Our regular meetings enable us to summarize previous agreements and discuss newly-emerged issues. I would like to thank you for transferring Permyakov’s criminal case to the Armenian jurisdiction. Besides, we signed an agreement with the Ministry of Energy to reduce the gas price by $25. A $200-million preferential loan agreement has also been singed, enabling Armenia to upgrade the arsenal of its armed forces.”

The Armenian leader also thanked Putin for Russia’s and his personal efforts in finding new ways for the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.

Armenia and Bulgaria sign military partnership plan for 2015

millitary-bulgariaYEREVAN. – Bilateral consultations on the military-political and military cooperation between Armenia and Bulgaria were conducted Thursday in the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, Armenian News – NEWS.am reports.

According to the press service of Armenian MOD,  representatives of Defense Policy Department of Armenian Defense Ministry and representatives of Defense Policy Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Bulgaria participated in consultations. The delegation of the Ministry of Defense of Bulgaria headed by the Defense Policy Directorate Chief Iveta Dimitrova has also met with the Armenian First Deputy Defense Minister David Tonoyan.

Following the consultations, Iveta Dimitrova and her Armenian counterpart, MOD Defense Policy Department Head Levon Ayvazyan signed the Armenian-Bulgarian bilateral military partnership plan for 2015.
