BELGIUM Federal Account majority recognize the Armenian Genocide

The four political groups in the federal majority (N-VA, MR, CD & V, VLD) currently discussing a resolution to be tabled in the House for recognizing the Armenian Genocide by the assembly. “The text is being finalized,” says Denis Ducarme us. It should however not be debated in plenary before the end of the year. The MR group leader said that the initiative was taken before the Kir Ozdemir and polemics.

The N-VA is at the initiative of this resolution, co-signed by the MR, the CD & V and VLD. On the side of the CD & V, we stressed the need “to also talk with the opposition: our ambition is to involve the opposition.”

Belgium party leader: Armenian Genocide deniers to be expelled from our party

Deniaer-no-placeIf there is an [Armenian Genocide] denier in the Humanist Democratic Centre, he/she will be immediately expelled, Benoît Lutgen, President of Belgium’s Humanist Democratic Centre said, referring to the scandalous statement by the Brussels MP Ahmed El Khannouss on the Armenian Genocide.

According to RTBF, the leader made it very clear that the deniers have no place in the party, since this contradicts the party’s Code of Ethics. “If there is a denier in the Humanist Democratic Centre, he/she will be immediately expelled. And I’ll tell you why: when I became a President, I asked each candidate to acknowledge all the genocides, including the Armenian Genocide. This is a written commitment, which is stipulated by our Code of Ethics in line with other obligations and rules of conduct,” Benoît Lutgen said.

Earlier, MP Ahmed El Khannouss from the Belgian capital city of Brussels had made a controversial statement in connection with the Armenian Genocide, consequently finding himself in the center of a debate. El Khannouss had recently written on Facebook about not recognizing the Armenian Genocide. His comment sparked a lot of criticism and some even accused the Brussels MP of denialism. In response, El Khannouss said he was misunderstood: “I have always been clear about the Armenian Genocide, which I acknowledge. I think there’s no need to argue over these historic sufferings.”

Belgium 4000 people pray for the Christians of the East

Four thousand people attended a prayer vigil for the persecuted Christians of the East, which was held Sunday night at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, according to Tommy arton102888-480x360Scholtes, Press Secretary of the Episcopal Conference of Belgium.

The evening, chaired by Archbishop Andre-Joseph Leonard, archbishop of Mechelen-Brussels, was entitled “Eastern Christians united with Western Christians: the same faith, the same prayer, the same solidarity for life and peace in the East “.

“This vigil was symbolically unique as ever national basilica was filled with so many different people from religious persuasions. Young Muslims also came to show their sympathy. Anglican bishops, Orthodox and Catholic, Eastern and Western, all gave the blessing at the end of the ceremony, united in a common cause and in a very quiet moment, “said Father Tommy Scholtes.

Clergy of the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic churches (Syriac, Chaldean, Melkite and Armenian) also attended the prayer vigil mainly devoted to the Christians of Iraq and Syria threatened and persecuted.
