Watch GagruleLive Queens of Syria: a documentary tells the story of fifty women from Syria, Video

October 23, 2017 By administrator

Los Angeles: Queens of Syria (the documentary) Film screened at UCLA Northwest Campus Auditorium,

Tells the story of fifty women from Syria, all forced into exile in Jordan, who came together in Autumn 2013 to create and perform their own version of the Trojan Women, the timeless Ancient Greek tragedy all about the plight of women in war. Not one of them had ever acted before.

What followed was an extraordinary moment of cross-cultural contact across millennia, in which women born in 20th century Syria found a blazingly vivid mirror of their own experiences in the stories of a queen, princesses and ordinary women like them, uprooted, enslaved, and bereaved by the Trojan War. It was a process charged with emotion and fraught with challenges, as long buried issues came to the surface, and at times the project itself hung in the balance.
Post-show discussion and reception to follow.

Director of latest Armenian Genocide movie in Yerevan: We didn’t shoot it for just a month, but for 100 years

September 22, 2017 By administrator

Terry George, the director of The Promise, the latest movie about Armenian Genocide, is in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan; this is his second visit to the country. He visited Armenia for the first time four years ago, to conduct studies for this film.
During Friday’s press conference, George said when he heard from non-Armenian filmmakers or audience that they had never heard of the Armenian Genocide and are surprised that the United States or Great Britain have not recognized it to this day and that the Turkish government denies the genocide, he believes this movie is a success.

The director added that he basically came across two views from those who watched this movie: “We knew very little about the Armenian Genocide,” and “We knew nothing about it.” He expressed a view that The Promise solves some educational issues also in this regard.

And, besides, in Terry George’s words, they are trying to draw attention—through this film—to the refugees’ issue which still exists. He noted that the greatest crime of the 20th century has not yet been recognized by the international community, and that is why today we see what is happening in Syria and Myanmar.

The filmmaker stated that they did not shoot The Promise for just a month, but for 100 years.

In turn, Eric Esrailian, the co-producer of this film, attached importance to Chris Cornell, the composer and performer of the soundtrack of The Promise. To note, Cornell committed suicide in May.

As per Esrailian, despite not being an Armenian, Chris Cornell was so caring about the Armenian Genocide issue, he had put his heart and soul into his song, and he condemned genocide denial.

Video-Interview & Touring Armenian Aviation Center, A system Comparable to the world Best,

December 27, 2016 By administrator

By Wally Sarkeesian,
(YEREVAN) It might surprise many of the Armenian Diaspora used to hearing about institutional shortcomings in Armenia’s government services, but the aviation regulator (the General Department of Civil Aviation, and air traffic control agency ARMATS is comparable or better than many of the world’s developed nations, according to the UN’s aviation watchdog, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).  Both Armenian agencies are based at Zvartnots International Airport, Yerevan.

Ranked at an impressive 85% compliance with ICAO’s international standards, this better than Sweden (84%) and Turkey (84%) and just below that of Germany (90%) and the United States (91%). By comparison, Russia has a rating of only 71% and Azerbaijan has a lowly 43%. In fact an earlier audit of Armenia in 2007 had awarded an even higher score at 96% to Armenia, one of the best in the world!
According to visiting ICAO Regional Officer Air Traffic Management Len Wicks, Armenians should recognise the excellent work by the aviation regulator and ARMATS to provide a safe and efficient aviation system. He particularly noted the modern air traffic control system that ARMATS had installed, which was able to manage all current air traffic demands safely and efficiently. Mr. Wicks expected that more flights would operate through Armenian airspace, especially given the conflicts affecting many of the neighbouring nations.
ARMATS Director General Artur Gasparyan agreed that Armenia was fully capable of handling much more air traffic and even the future ‘free flight’ environment planned by Europe. Armenia is a member of the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL), unlike Azerbaijan.
Armenia has managed, despite all the difficulties for a small nation, to develop an excellent aviation system to safely welcome travellers like tourists, businessmen and diaspora to landlocked Armenia. It’s something all Armenians can be proud of.
Gagrule.net like to Thank All leadership of  “Armats” Armenian air navigation service for the great hospitality
Mr. Len Wicks for his expertise,
and Liana Vardanian for assisting with the Interview.

Transforming Armenian Villages “Adopt A Village Project” – connecting Diaspora “Video”

December 6, 2016 By administrator

adopt-a-vilage-740By Wally Sarkeesian
Transforming Armenia
On 29 September 2016 something magical happened in Vayots Dzor Province, Armenia. It wasn’t just the sound of Armenian music or the dancing of young villagers. It was a day when the Armenian diaspora were able to connect directly with their fellow Armenians in a unique way.
The Adopt-a-Village Project (AAV) is an idea by Australia/New Zealand genocide activist Len Wicks, who is author of Origins: Discovery, a novel that features Armenia. Len married Armine Hakobyan in 2011 and since then has been on a quest for positive change in the Fatherland.
Everyone present – diaspora, tourists, dignitaries and ordinary villagers – were captivated by the simple concept of each village in Armenia having a mentor who organized direct assistance from the diaspora and friends of Armenia living in the diaspora nation. AAV uses direct, transparent micro-projects to avoid corruption. The scheme has the potential to systematically transform the nation, by strengthening the economic independence of the most vulnerable Armenians in rural villages. It’s surprising that this hasn’t been done before.

We witnessed a gathering of people from around the world at the unveiling of the Karas Monument – designed by Len as a tourist icon to symbolize the start of the Silk Road Wine Trail that he’s promoting for tourism. Excited young villagers unfurled a 125 metre Armenian flag from the monument, singing Mer Hayrenik.
They were happy to know that others cared for them and the future was brighter.
It was noted that villagers have to play their part too. They have to clean up their village, learn languages and welcome guests, especially the supporting diaspora.
On Facebook
Special AAV projects were celebrated in three different villages: Rind (supported by the diaspora in Thailand), Areni (New Zealand) and Shatin (Australia). It’s an innovation intended to prepare villages for tourism and encourage the young to stay. Should we wait until the villages depopulate and die, vulnerable to those who desire our homeland?
If you would like to learn more about the Armenian Church-endorsed AAV Project, please check out the information at http://originsdiscovery.com/Adopt-a-Village.html, and contact Len through his website contacts. On the news page you can see the interviews about AAV on Armenian TV.
