Armenia presented “Wine Tourism” programme in the scope of the ITB Berlin 2018 Travel Trade Show held in Germany from March 7-11, Zarmine Zeytuntsyan, Chairperson of the State Committee for Tourism of Armenia’s Ministry of Economic Development and Investments, told reporters on Saturday.
To note, the Silk Road Program’s most senior annual meeting focused on the “2025 Silk Road Tourism Agenda” took place in the scope of ITB Berlin aimed at sharing ideas and strategies as to how fully realize the goals of establishing the Silk Road as the most important transnational tourism route of the 21st century.
In Zeytuntsyan’s words, Armenia’s initiative of developing a joint regional tourism result trough the Silk Road Programme was well-accepted by the participants.
She reminded that last year the working group of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) held a session in Valencia where the project for development and promotion of the “Wine Tourism” tourism result within the framework of the Silk Road Programme and through cooperation with the UNWTO was approved by the participants.
Zeytuntsyan next added the “Wine Tourism” draft strategy has already been prepared along with the the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Smithsonian Institution to be send to all tourism ministries of the members states of the 8th ministerial meeting. The State Committee for Tourism is poised to undertake the strategy development “Wine tourism on the Silk Route” upon the consent of the member states.
“This is of much relevance to us as we attach importance to the development of interregional tourism and intercultural dialogue. Apart from that, we seek to position Armenia as a wine destination,” Zeytuntsyan said.
