YEREVAN. – The Armenian Defense Ministry posted the photos of the two pilots killed in a military jet rash earlier on Tuesday.
The SU-25 military jet of the Armenian Armed Forces has been found in the mountains near the region of Maralik in northeastern Armenia.
Lieutenant Colonel Armen Babayan and Major Movses Manukyan were killed
The General Military Investigation Department of the Investigation Committee of Armenia is investigating the reasons of the crash of the SU-25 aircraft, ARMENPRESS reports advisor to the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Armenia Sona Truzyan wrote on her Facebook page.
“According to the preliminary information, the military SU-25 aircraft conducting a routine training flight crashed on December 4 at about 10:20 am in the vicinity of Karaberd village located in the region of Maralik town of Shirak Province. As a result of the crash First Class Pilot, Lieutenant Colonel Armen Slavik Babayan and 3rd Class Pilot, Major Movses Gevorg Manoukyan have been killed.
The investigative-operative group headed to the scene immediately, led by Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee, Head of General Military Investigation Department Artak Krkyasharyan”, she wrote, adding that an criminal case has been initiated.
“The black box has been discovered during the examination of the scene. Extra information will be provided on the process of the investigation”, Truzyan wrote.

A Russian Su-24 frontline bomber rolled off the runway on takeoff from Russia’s Hmeymim air base in Syria on Tuesday, Russian news agencies cited Russia’s defense ministry as saying, adding that the warplane’s crew died in the accident.

A Turkish fighter jet on a training mission crashed on its final approach to an airport in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir on Monday, Turkey’s military said on Monday, noting that the pilot had ejected from the plane and was unharmed. An investigation had started into the cause of the crash, the army said in a statement. Security sources said the jet crashed in an empty field. Helicopters were scanning an area of between 3 km and 4 km (about 2 miles) around the site, for any unexploded ordnance. Commercial flights to predominantly Kurdish Diyarbakir’s civilian airport, next to the military air base, were rerouted to nearby airports, sources said.
