Armenia elected Vice-President of UN General Assembly

6-15 Armenia has been elected Vice-President of the UN General Assembly, the official UN website reports.

Besides Armenia chosen from the Eastern European States, 20 other countries have also been elected Vice Presidents by secret vote. They include Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Mauritania, Nigeria and Zambia from the African States; Bangladesh, Nepal, Solomon Islands and Turkmenistan from the Asia-Pacific States;

Armenia from the Eastern European States;

Bahamas, Belize and El Salvador from the Latin American and Caribbean States; and Belgium and Germany from the Western European and other States. The five permanent members of the Security Council (China, France, Russian Federation, United Kingdom and the United States) are also among the 21 Vice-Presidents.

US VP and Armenian YEREVAN. – President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and U.S. Vice President Joe Biden spoke on the phone Friday to discuss issues related to the current stage of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict normalization. The conversation took place upon the initiative of the American side.

The sides attached importance to the full and productive implementation of the arrangements reached upon the initiative of the foreign ministers of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries in Vienna on May 16.

They also agreed that the conflict can be resolved exclusively by peaceful means and in the framework of the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group mediating co-chairmanship.
