There was no country called Turkey before 1923, until the Turks invaded from central Asia (Turkmenistan).

90 years ago after the Ottoman Empire was defeated, the Turkish government made a secret deal with the British empire because they feared they would lose Mesopotamia (current day Iraq) and Anatolia due to Arab uprisings against the Turks.  This secret deal ultimately sold the Arab land to the British in exchange for the Turkish claim to the Anatolia territory (Currently so called Turkey), betraying the Armenians, Kurds, Greeks and other indigenous peoples of the Anatolia region.
