Turkey Drug traffickers see trucks as reliable means of transport after MİT truck crisis

May 24, 2015 By administrator

212133The state mechanism experienced a state of deadlock after the arrest of prosecutors, military officers and police officers who were involved in the search of trucks sponsored by the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) in Adana in January 2014. In consideration of what happened to their colleagues, security officers now hesitate to stop trucks in Adana, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, Hakkari and Şırnak even when there is strong suspicion of criminal activity. report Zaman

Organized crime syndicates have so far exploited this. The criminal groups first tipped off the police to check whether they would search trucks they dispatched from the east to the west. But the police did nothing. After this simple test, they started to use trucks as the most convenient means of delivery. The amount of drugs seized in 2014 reveals that clandestine organizations are now able to transport drugs without any strong preventive mechanism. According to official data from the police, 166,268 kilograms of opium were seized in 2013; this is in stark contrast to the 83,840 kilograms seized in 2014.

Drug abuse has become a major social issue; drug dealers freely wander around schools and entertainment centers; and children and young people have become susceptible to growing problems associated with drug abuse. Not only are the abusers affected by these problems, so are their families. A recent example includes İsmail Erduman, a young college student who died after attending a party where drugs were being used. Reports indicate that because of a lack of proper measures, opium and heroin are being sold freely on the street and public places.

A senior official from the police department noted that it is now easy to have access to drugs, saying: “There are different reasons for this. But there is one particular reason which significantly contributed to the increased amount of drug abuse. The trucks of the intelligence agency stopped in Adana and Hatay led to a serious state crisis. After this, the amount of drugs on the market significantly increased because the police officers are now hesitant to stop trucks.”
