Will the British Blame Russia for the Eight inches of snow and -5C cold winds tomorrow?

UK, Snow and the Russians

Temperatures will plummet this weekend as an easterly wind brings Siberian weather to the UK once more.

The UK is set to get hit by a second ‘Beast from the East’ with snow to start falling on some parts by as soon as tomorrow.

Two weeks after a Siberian weather system plunged the country into chaos, the Met Office are warning a second ‘mini-Beast’ could cause disruption once again.

Yellow weather warnings for snow and ice are in place for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Temperatures will struggle to get above 0C on Sunday and a bitter wind chill will make it feel even colder.

While on Friday temperatures will be mild for most, the northernmost tips of Scotland will feel a lot chillier and that will slowly spread south through the day.

Snow Apocalypse in Moscow

Snow Apocalypse in Moscow

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Heavy wet snow and strong wind have hit Moscow for the second day in a row, resulting in damage to power lines and trees, hazardous driving conditions, delays of dozens of flights, as well as casualties.

Earlier in the day, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that on Saturday one person was killed and several others were injured after a tree fell and electric power lines had been damaged due to the natural disaster.

“According to the preliminary data, five people have already been injured. Be careful, forecasts say the weather will worsen,” Sobyanin wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

Pyotr Biryukov, Moscow deputy mayor for housing, utilities and amenities, told reporters on Sunday, that around 370 trees had fallen in the city.

The Russian capital’s emergencies services have sent out warnings to the city residents about the weather situation, Biryukov noted, calling on the residents to follow the recommendations of the authorities to ensure their own safety.

Reduced service on Expo and Millenium Lines; SFU and Capilano have cancelled remaining classes

The second snowstorm of the week in Metro Vancouver took longer than expected to hit on Friday but is now starting to impact services in the region.

Southbound lanes on the Alex Fraser Bridge are heavily delayed because of an accident and there is currently no estimate for when it will be fully cleared.

Meanwhile, the Expo and Millennium Line routes are running on reduced service because of the weather, but are not experiencing delays as of 5:45 p.m. PT.

Further north, Simon Fraser University and Capilano University have cancelled their classes and exams for the rest of the day, and Capilano has also preemptively closed its campus for Saturday.

“As this weekend’s weather remains unpredictable, students and employees should consult capilanou.ca before travelling to the campus on Sunday.”

TransLink has suspended bus routes to SFU, and there have been changes made to the 20, 151, 152, 169 and 210 routes, with multiple reports of Commercial Drive being very slippery between Broadway and Venables.

“The afternoon snow is impacting bus service across the region, causing many delays,” said TransLink in a statement.

7 to 15 cm in many areas

Snow failed to accumulate in the early hours of Friday across the region, promoting some online mockery — but picked up in earnest later in the morning.
