YEREVAN. – Deputies from RPA, ARF Dashnaktsutyun and Tsarukyan factions appear to have understood the people’s message and said they would respect it regardless of a memorandum, Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan said after his two-hour talks with the lawmakers.
He added that the lawmakers said they are not going to nominate their candidate for PM’s seat in either the first or the second round.
Pashinyan emphasized that the political crisis in the country cannot continue for long, and snap parliamentary elections are needed.
“I have to resign in coming days, but I expect that the Republican Party and the parliament would not make people nervous, as they have to realize that if I resign and they propose a candidate, and they can do it theoretically, this would provoke reaction of people,” he emphasized.
PM said he talked on behalf of people and conveyed a message that snap parliamentary elections should be held in the first half of December.
When asked by the lawmakers why elections cannot be held in May, PM named two reasons. Firstly, there is political crisis and postponing elections until May means to postpone solution to the crisis. Secondly, everyone’s call is for snap elections.
According to the Constitution, after PM is not elected in two rounds, a day of elections is set not earlier than 30 days and not later than 40 days.
The political forces which would oppose people’s demand for snap elections are declaring war against their people, he emphasized.
