Protesters have gathered to call for Slovak Prime Minister Fico and his government to step down following the murder of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancee. The president has warned of a crisis of trust.

Slovakia has witnessed its largest protest since anti-communism rallies in 1989, with an estimated 50,000 gathering in the capital, Bratislava. The reason: the murder of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée. Their murders sent shockwaves across the country and the EU. April 22, 2016 By administrator

default-slovakYEREVAN. – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that Armenia’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic and to Slovakia, Tigran Seiranian, whose diplomatic residence is in the Czech capital city of Prague, paid a visit to the Slovak capital city of Bratislava, where he held several talks.

The Armenian ambassador met with Andrej Danko, the newly elected Speaker of the National Council (parliament) of Slovakia. In 2015, Danko had visited Armenia and attended the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations.

Seiranian thanked the Slovak parliament leader for the National Council’s formal recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, and for the supplementation of the Slovak Criminal Code with articles criminalizing the denial of genocides.

Head of the Slovak parliament, for his part, assured that his country will continue its principled approach toward the condemnation of genocides.

Subsequently, the interlocutors discussed a wide range of bilateral relations.

In addition, the Armenian ambassador presented the current situation in the South Caucasus.

Ambassador Seiranian also met with Luboš Blaha, who is Chairman of the European Affairs Committee of the National Council, and with MPs Oľga Nachtmannová and Pavol Goga. They conferred on matters of mutual interest, and stressed the need for giving new impetus to parliamentary ties.

At the Ministry of Economy of Slovakia, the Armenian diplomat discussed the avenues for the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries.

On the same day, Ambassador Tigran Seiranian laid a wreath to Bratislava’s Armenian cross-stone, which is devoted to the Armenian Genocide victims.
