Luys Foundation’s scholarship holders plan to establish consulting company with ambitions to become “Armenian McKinsey”

June 15, 2018 By administrator

YEREVAN, MARCH 16,  Law students of Luys Foundation, who initiated the Irava-Tech conference aimed at technological development in Armenia, plan to establish a consulting company that will strive to become an Armenian McKinsey or BCG.

Eduard Grigoryan, co-founder of Irava-Tech, student of the Law School of the Harvard University, gave an interview to ARMENPRESS on this topic.

-What problems can be faced by the newly-established Armenian technological companies in the field of protection of intellectual property?

-The Armenain government makes great efforts for promoting the IT field. This is an opportunity which the country has: a talented young generation in the conditions of limited natural resources. The government carries out a great activity with the private sector, but at this stage the problem is that there is a need for establishment of strong legal and financial environment, in other words, an ecosystem that will contribute to the constant development of start-ups. The investments in this field mainly come from the US and Europe, 90% of the venture capital coming from abroad is from these two markets. But in order to attract new investor we should have a strong legal system, and the Irava-Tech is based on the idea to create a network of specialists who will be able to assist these structures to be improved so that the foreign investors will come to Armenia and help the talented Armenian companies to develop. On the other hand, our goal is to act as a bridge between Armenia and the Western countries so that the Armenian companies will enter international markets.

-Will you talk more about these issues?

-We are talking about two main issues. The first one is of legal nature, such as the main process of the protection of intellectual property. People invest a lot of time and great efforts by developing new technologies which is very difficult to protect by the legal system in Armenia. Armenia has adopted the Law on the Protection of Intellectual Property, but it has not been completely implemented and the registration of internationally recognized patent is difficult in Armenia. Quite often Armenian inventors have to protect their right to intellectual property in the US. We are trying to help the Armenian scientists to have a protection in Armenia, and this will also benefit the Armenian government.

The second issue is the financing of innovations. Armenia is a small country in order to promote great ideas that need funding. Thus, we need to be sure that people can find assistance to their ideas.

-In other words, you think that the Law on the Protection of Intellectual Property must be improved?

-Yes, I do. The legal field, like the remaining fields, develops, they are not constant, when new technologies arrive, they are a great challenge for the legal system. 100 years ago we had horses, now we do not have them, we have high technologies, artificial intellect, but the laws we have are old and sometimes not practical.

As for the intellectual property, it’s really difficult for the lawmakers to understand the technologies and create a legal system that will protect the intellectual property as even technologies do not fully understand what they have created.

-Do you see any steps by the state on solving these issues?

-The country tries to take steps in the protection of intellectual property, it signed a number of agreements, but the establishment of this system is a long process, you cannot sign a document one night and be confident that everything will automatically work well. Long time is needed for the lawyers, judges to learn applying the new regulations and ways of doing business.

-How can you assist the Armenian start-ups to protect their new ideas?

-Our goal is to create a network of the world’s leading professionals who will be available online. Starting from this year all our materials will be available online and one can find the answer of the question on how to protect intellectual property at the website of Luys Foundation. There will be a short description what you need to do first, what are the procedures, we will also provide contact information of this or that person and organizations who can be useful.

Last year when we initiated this idea we imagined the works at three stages. The first stage was last year, we gathered and inspired the local lawyers and entrepreneurs to think about these issues. We try to implement the second stage this year, the network component, when people from the whole world can join our network and protect their rights and interests. According to the third stage we want to establish a company in Armenia where people can get consultation on legal, financial and business-related issues. We want to create an Armenian McKinsy or BCG.

-When do you plan to implement it?

-I know everyone wants to see it as soon as possible as it is quite an inspiring idea. This is a long-term project, I think two-three years will be required for implementing it. As the physical presence of specialists in the office was ensured quite hard, financial resources are also needed, but I am full of hope that we will be able to form the network and have that office in Armenia in the upcoming two-three years.

Armenian Women have long been adored and respected for their beauty and with the 2015 poll of 44,000 Americans where we were voted the Most Beautiful Women of the World; an emphasis on Armenian women has increased.Though we are a race of beauty, Armenians have much more to offer to the world and Armenian women have contributed a lot to the world.

The common perception of Armenian women is that they have hair that is long and dark and that they have eyes which are brownish black. However, Armenian women have an amazing array of looks and more importantly, intelligence and wit to match.

Armenia as a country is a place which has a history and culture which is very rich. Along with having gorgeous women and hospitable people, it also has delicious food and very beautiful landscapes.

As one of the very first countries to officially accept Christianity as a state religion in 301 A.D., Armenians have a very rich and varied culture.

At an average life expectancy of 77 years and an adult literacy rate of 99% (source), Armenian women are some of the most educated women in the world.

Would you like to know what an Armenian woman is really like?

Armenian women are some of the most devoted wives. They are hard-workers and intelligent. They are excellent mothers and great companions.

Another exceptional thing about Armenian Women is that they have a very feminine aspect and take pride in looking good.

Like many Americans, most young Armenian ladies especially in the cities take a lot of pride in their appearance and may even save up to a whole months earnings to buy a new dress.

Another great aspect of a modern day beautiful Armenian lady is that she has been raised to make sure that her husband and children are always cared for. They are very traditional and have strong family values. So if you are marrying one, you are not only marrying them but there whole family.

They make sure that their children are well cared for and are brought up with good values since over 90% of Armenians practice Christianity and are devout Christians.

In terms of marriage, most Armenian girls would be encouraged by their family to marry other Armenian Christians as religion is very important. But modern Armenians today are open to marriage out of religion as they want their daughter happiness before anything else

Life in the capital city is very different from most of the country and here you will find the women much more exposed to western concepts and outlook.

Armenian women, who live in Yerevan, have much more independence to express them and are much more approachable.

Armenian women across the world are proud of their rich and varied heritage. An Armenian lady may be born or live in any other part or the world but deep within, they still consider themselves Armenian.

Armenia 100 LIVES announces Amal Clooney Scholarship

December 16, 2015 By administrator

202413100 LIVES announced the launch of a new annual scholarship established in partnership with esteemed international human rights lawyer Amal Clooney. The new ‘Amal Clooney Scholarship’ is part of an ongoing effort by 100 LIVES – the organization behind the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity – to strengthen cross-cultural education and understanding through collaborative social and philanthropic projects.

“As a leading human rights barrister and campaigner, Amal Clooney is an inspirational role model for young women around the world. She exemplifies integrity, compassion and dedication – and typifies what it means to be a global citizen across all cultures,” said Ruben Vardanyan, co-founder of 100 LIVES and UWC Dilijan College, an international co-educational boarding school hosting students from 64 countries. “100 LIVES recognizes the need for future generations to have greater cross-cultural understanding. The college strives to make education a force for peace by bringing together aspiring young leaders from all over the world.”

Through this new scholarship, 100 LIVES will send one female student from Lebanon to Dilijan each year to enroll in a two-year international baccalaureate program. Recipients of the Amal Clooney Scholarship will be chosen annually based on their exemplary academic performance and demonstrable interest in the promotion of human rights and international issues. The first Amal Clooney Scholarship will be awarded to Pamela Tebchrany – a dedicated Lebanese student who graduated top of her class and is fluent in Arabic, French and English. She will be using the scholarship to pursue her interests in human rights and women’s equality.

“This scholarship will give young women from Lebanon the opportunity of a lifetime,” Amal Clooney said. “Cross-cultural learning and studying abroad can be transformative. I am grateful to 100 LIVES for helping to open doors for these bright and talented young women.”

Beyond this scholarship, both Clooney and her husband, George, have philanthropic ties to 100 LIVES. G. Clooney is co-chair of the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity – a new $1 million global humanitarian prize recognizing those who put themselves at risk to enable others to survive. He will present at the inaugural Prize at a ceremony in Yerevan, Armenia on April 24, 2016. Mr. Clooney’s Not On Our Watch foundation is also a partner of 100 LIVES – the two organizations share a commitment to focus public attention on the impact of genocide and work to prevent mass atrocities around the world.

The annual selection process is managed by a dedicated UWC National Committee in Lebanon and based on the UWC entry requirements and Amal Clooney Scholarship criteria.
