The new recruits from in and around the Armenian cities of Gyumri and Ashotsk underwent a medical checkup on Thursday.
Subsequently, and at the presence of journalists, they drew lots—on where they will be serving their military duty—as the boys’ parents and relatives looked on.
There were three boxes from where the lots were to be drawn.
The first box was for the orphaned children, who will be serving at military units that are up to 150 kilometers away from their places of residence.
The recruits who have been issued driver’s licenses with the MOD funding, and who will be serving in the Armenian army as drivers, drew their lots from the second box.
And the rest drew from the third box.
There were fourteen names of cities in the boxes on Thursday.
“We live in Russia; we have come from Krasnodar [city]. I brought my boy so he may go to the army here,” a parent, whose son will be serving in Ararat city, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
The military recruits also included Georgian citizens who had come to Armenia on their own volition to carry out their military service in the Armenian army.
