Toronto Armenian community renovates school in Karabakh

karabakh-school With the support of its Toronto affiliate, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund is implementing a number of renovations at the secondary school of Mataghis, a community in Artsakh’s (Nagorno Karabakh) Martakert region.

The three-story campus was built in 2005-2006 with the financial support of Toronto’s Armenian community.

“During a donor visit to the school, our delegation realized that the campus needed a makeover,” said Migirdic Migirdician, chairman of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund’s Toronto affiliate.

“The renovations are nearing completion, and have not disrupted the educational process.”

Within the framework of the project, the school’s roof and restrooms have been repaired and upgraded, doors and windows have been replaced, and granite flooring has been installed throughout the hallways and the auditorium. The exterior of the campus has also been refreshed.

“To our community, these renovations are much more than a routine series of repairs,” said Gegham Aghajanyan, the school’s young principal. “Every time I remember the small building where I went to school, the same building that now houses our kindergarten, I delight in the knowledge that these renovations are a wonderful gift to our students.”

Armenia: Students in Nalbandyan village will have a renovated and reconstructed school

The school in Nalbandyan village of Armavir region of Armenia is undergoing major renovations through the Hayastan Fund Toronto affiliate’s benefactors Mr. and Mrs. Armen and Berjouhi Nalbandians.

The 2nd and 3rd blocks of the three-story school, which has a total surface area of about 3,200 square meters, are completed, according to the press service of Hayastan Fund. Before the renovations and reconstruction works started, the foundations and the two blocks of the school have been reinforced, the internal engineering networks, including new electrical, water mains and heating pipes have been reconstructed, floors have been rebuilt with laminate and granite. Six new toilets have been constructed since there was only one toilet to serve the two blocks of the school. While the crews are working on reconstruction of the administrative block, the 600 students of the school study in the newly renovated blocks. A much needed sport gym facility will be constructed for the school. After the construction works are over, the school will be provided with brand new furniture and the necessary sports equipment.

The village mayor Grigor Mkrtchyan says that besides the new and convenient conditions for the students and teachers, the reconstruction also provided jobs and income to about 30 work crews per month.

The village residents were happy to tell that even the storks welcome this nice initiative of the Hayastan Fund. It is the first time they built nests on the four corners of the school roof granting warm feelings to the village residents.

ARMENIA The Yerevan municipality renovated 31 kindergartens

Renovation works are ongoing in 31 municipal kindergartens in Yerevan reported the press office of the municipality of Yerevan.

Twenty-three kindergartens were included in the annual list of renovations as well as eight other kindergartens whose renovation began in 2014 according to the program.

The Gardens where renovation is needed are included and prioritized in the list after an inventory.
