March 25, 2014 By administrator

President Serzh Sargsyan spoke yesterday about events Kessab from The Hague where he is for the summit on denuclearization.

arton98381-478x320The President expressed his deep emotion about events happening Kessab: “We all remember the story perfectly Kessab is unfortunately rich throughout the last hundred years infernal events such as deportations of Armenians “.

The Chairperson recalled that the first serious event for the region Kessab took place in 1909, when Turkish troops invaded Kessab to April. Armenians took refuge in the hills and on the shores of Kaladouran. After Kessab looted and burned, the Turks rushed on Kaladouran and burned and plundered the houses of the upper quarter. The population was moved to Latakia with a French ship transport. After spending nearly a year in Latakia, refugees were able to return to Kessab where they rebuilt their homes.

Referring to these historic events, Sarkisian also cited another date, that of the Armenian Genocide of 1915, which did not spare either to Kessab emigration and exile. The kessabiotes were deported in two directions, Der-Zor, north, and south, to Jordan. Thousands of Kessabiotes were martyred, mostly in the deserts of Der-Zor.

“This new deportation of Armenians Kessab, the third, is the biggest challenge for the defense mechanisms of minorities in the 21st century. I think we all understand that the comparisons that come immediately to mind all must invite us to be very careful, “stressed the President Sargsyan. After thanking the Syrian authorities for the measures taken for the protection of Armenians Kessab, President Sarkisian added: “I have already recommended to diplomatic representatives of the Republic of Armenia UN offices in New York and Geneva to act in the structures dedicated to the defense of human rights and minority issues to protect Armenians Kessab and ensure their return and security in their permanent places of residence. ” President S. Sargsyan assured that the Armenian Embassy in Syria is working on a plan to support Armenians Kessab which will be fully realized.

The information office of the Presidency of the Republic has announced that today, the President had discussed the situation with the Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia.
