Armenia’s national security service urges armed group to surrender by 5pm

ANS surrenderYEREVAN. – Armenia’s national security service issued a statement concerning the Friday clashes in Yerevan.

The statement says shots from different weapons were heard from the building of seized police compound. The shooters targeted police officers who were on duty in Sari Tagh area.

“In addition, the armed group detonated a grenade in the territory of the regiment, and then tried to set on fire a bus parked near police regiment, throwing burning objects under it.

Thanks to adequate response of law enforcement agencies all firing points were suppressed, and the aggressive actions of the armed groups prevented. According to preliminary data, a policeman and members of the armed group were wounded in a shootout,” the statement reads.

Armenia’s national security service said these actions couldn’t continue any longer.

“Please be informed that after the events of late July 29, all existing reasonable possibilities of a peaceful solution have been exhausted. Provided by the Constitution of Armenia and justified under the circumstances, the use of force is absolutely necessary to protect the citizens from an attack dangerous to their life and health,” the statement reads.

“Therefore, members of the armed group are given time until 5p.m.  in order to lay down arms and to surrender without resistance. Otherwise, special units of law enforcement agencies are authorized to open fire without warning and disarm any armed person in the territory of police regiment or beyond.

Any attempt to penetrate into the territory without the authorization of the regiment will be is considered as aiding terrorism and the perpetrators, regardless of their status, will be held accountable. Armenia President convenes National Security Council meeting

17102YEREVAN. – President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, who is also the President of the National Security Council (NSC), convened an NSC meeting Tuesday evening.  

The meeting addressed issues related to the measures taken in connection with the situation formed as a result of Azerbaijan’s gross violation of the Ceasefire Agreement of 1994, large-scale attack against Karabakh and use of force against the civilian population.

During the meeting, the NSC members made reports. It was recorded that the Armed Forces of Armenia fulfilled the tasks set before them during the military actions unleashed by Azerbaijan. Moreover, the Karabakh Defense Army acted triumphantly, preventing Azerbaijan’s aggression and failing its plans.

President Sargsyan gave corresponding instructions concerning the issues discussed.

Armenia President convenes National Security Council session

14390YEREVAN. – Armenia’s National Security Council (NSC) session presided by the President of Armenia and NSC, took place today. The results of the Shant-2015 military exercises held from September 3 to 6, specifically the work carried out in the direction of achieving the main objectives provided by the exercise’s scenario, achievements recorded, the gaps, coordination of activities and activity efficiency, etc. were discussed in detail.

Following the reports by the head of the military exercise headquarters and his deputies, Sargsyan gave corresponding instructions.

Prior to this, President Serzh Sargsyan made an introductory speech, in which he specifically mentioned that the aforementioned military exercises aimed at continuing the work carried out by the Armenian state authorities in order to resist the possible aggression of the adversary.

“We held similar military exercises of smaller volume in 2008 and 2013. But this time the exercises were held in full volume, definitely being unprecedented,” he said.

Sargsyan also noted that there is a regulation which establishes periodicity for holding each type of military exercise, and “we must all adhere to that periodicity.”

According to the president, each military exercise has at least three main goals: to check, improve and gain experience. “Each military exercise also definitely has special purposes, and according to the preliminary conclusions, Shant-2015 command and staff military exercises were held in an organized manner and achieved their goals,” he said.
