Grenade Thrown at U.S. Embassy

Montenegro’s government said Thursday that an attacker threw a hand grenade at the U.S. Embassy in the capital of the Balkan state and then killed himself with another explosive device, Politico writes.

The area was sealed off by police, and the embassy warned Americans to avoid the area because of “an active security situation.”
Montenegro’s government said the unknown assailant hurled the grenade into the embassy compound around midnight and then killed himself with another explosive device. No one else was apparently hurt and there was no major damage.

“The Embassy is currently conducting an internal review to confirm the safety of all staff,” the State Department in Washington said.

Montenegro borders the Adriatic Sea in southeastern Europe and its capital is Podgorica. It joined NATO last year despite strong opposition from its traditional Slavic ally Russia.

Armenia beats Montenegro in World Cup qualifier

November 12, 2016 By administrator

armenian-montenegroHenrikh Mkhitaryan‘s Armenia staged a dramatic comeback to earn their first victory in World Cup 2018 qualifying, Daily Mail reports.

Trailing 2-0 against Montenegro at half-time, Armenia fought back and scored a sensational winner in the 94th minute.

Having not won any of their last 12 competitive matches, since October 2013, Armenia looked set for another defeat as goals from Damir Kojasevic and former Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic gave Montenegro a commanding lead.

With Armenia stuck at the bottom of Group E with no points from their opening three matches, the match looked beyond Artur Petrosyan’s side.

However, captained by Manchester United midfielder Mkhitaryan, Armenia pulled a goal back five minutes after the restart as Artak Grigoryan struck following a lung-busting run from the halfway line after goalkeeper Mladen Bozovic had saved his initial shot.

Armenia then equalised with 16 minutes to go, Varazdat Haroyan netting his first international goal, finding himself in acres of space to slot the ball home from a corner.

The spirited comeback was completed deep into injury time as Gevorg Ghazaryan struck a fierce drive into the botttom corner to spark wild scenes.

Victory saw Armenia move above Kazhakstan into fifth four points behind Montenegro who remain top with seven points.
