Syrian air defense intercepts Israeli missiles targeting military facility

December 5, 2017 By administrator

Israel has launched several missiles at a Syrian military facility located close to the capital Damascus.

“Our air defenses are confronting an Israeli missile attack on one of our sites in the Damascus suburbs and three of the targets were downed,” said a report by state news agency SANA published late on Monday.

Over the past few years, the Israeli military has launched sporadic attacks against various targets on Syrian soil, in assaults slammed by Syria as attempts to boost the terror groups wreaking havoc on the country.

On several occasions, the Syrian army has also confiscated Israeli-made arms and military equipment from terrorists fighting the government forces. Israel has also been providing medical treatment to the extremist militants wounded in Syria.

Israel unveils tactical missile first used by Azerbaijan against Christian Karabakh

June 26, 2017 By administrator

israeli tactical missile AzerbaijanIsrael, azerbaijan Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems has unveiled new fifth-generation Spike missiles at the Paris Air Show, which are already used by Azerbaijan in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Jerusalem Online reports.

A video released in May showed the guided missile being launched and then partially destroying an Armenian military objective.

Following Azerbaijan’s provocations, the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group in a statement gave an assessment of the current situation on the Karabakh line of contact, addressed to Azerbaijan. The French, Russian and U.S. ambassadors cited “information collected from multiple reliable sources” which proved that Azerbaijan initiated the latest escalation on the contact line.

The new missile, called the Spike LR II or Spike 2, has a range of up to 5.5 kilometers when launched from the ground and a range of 10 kilometers when launched from a fighter jet. Successfully tested in Israel, the Spike LR II missiles are already being used in the Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict.

The missile weighs only 12.7 kilograms and can be launched from any Spike system. It possesses advanced artificial intelligence capabilities, increased abilities to destroy buildings and armor and the ability to deal with reactive and active reinforcements on an armored fighting vehicle.

According to foreign reports, Hezbollah also possesses this type of anti-aircraft battery.

Armenia to use Iskander missiles “based on how situation develops”

February 22, 2017 By administrator

Armenia will make a decision to use Iskander missile systems depending on the development of the situation, defense minister Vigen Sargsyan said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“I can explain the algorithm. The functions and parameters of the weapon allow to cause irreparable damage to the infrastructure of the country, against which it can be applied. Accordingly, the decision to use the system will be closely connected with the development of the situation,” he said.

The minister also said that the Iskanders delivered from Russia belong to the armed forces of Armenia, and that the latter’s officers, who have completed special training, operate them.

As reported earlier, four Iskander systems have been delivered to Armenia and displayed for the first time at the military parade marking the 25th anniversary of the country’s independence.

WASHINGTON—An Israeli military strategist reported that Israel supplied Azerbaijan with laser anti-tank missiles on March 31, one day before Baku launched a savage attack against all border targets in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Voice of America Armenian Service reported.

Alexander Murinson from the Strategic Research Department of the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies within Bar-Ilan University of Israel said Azerbaijan has claims for a new role in the region, and it attempts to clarify its position on the Armenian forces in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Also, he reflected on the sources of Azerbaijan’s purchase of weapons.  “On March 31, Israel supplied laser anti-tank missiles to Azerbaijan,” Murinson noted. “Azerbaijan is the first country to acquire these missiles, and this certainly has given an advantage to its military capabilities.

Even though Israel does not officially support any side in the conflict, it obviously has close ties with Baku.”  Robert Avetisyan, the Permanent Representative of Nagorno-Karabakh to the US, also reflected on the supplying of military equipment to Azerbaijan. He noted that this fact has always been a concern for them, and that they have repeatedly called on all countries not to sell arms to Azerbaijan.  “These recent events [at the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone] have shown that the regional situation is very fragile, and that it can very easily lead to disaster and great tragedy.”

Russian Su-34 bombers, additionally equipped with air-to-air missiles, have set out on their first mission in Syria, said Igor Klimov, spokesman for the Russian Air Force.

“Today, Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers have made their first sortie equipped not only with high explosive aviation bombs and hollow charge bombs, but also with short- and medium-range air-to-air missiles,” Klimov said.

“The planes are equipped with missiles for defensive purposes,” he added.

The missiles have target-seeking devices and are “capable of hitting air targets within a 60km radius,” he said.

Turkish F-16s shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber operating in Syria on November 24, with Ankara claiming that the warplane had violated Turkish airspace. Moscow has rejected the claims, saying that according to its military intelligence the Su-24 never left Syrian airspace.

On Monday, Turkey’s prime minister said that Ankara will not apologize for the incident.

“No Turkish prime minister or president will apologize … for doing our duty,” Ahmet Davutoglu told reporters after meeting NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels.

In the wake of the downing, President Vladimir Putin on Saturday signed a decree imposing a package of economic sanctions against Turkey. The measures include banning several Turkish organizations and the import of certain goods. Under the sanctions, the visa-free regime for Turkish nationals traveling to Russia will be suspended starting next year. The Russian government has also been tasked with introducing a ban on charter flights between Russia and Turkey and to enhance security control at Russian ports on the Sea of Azov and Black Sea.

Russia has been conducting airstrikes targeting Islamic State militants (IS, former ISIS, ISIL) and other terrorist groups in Syria since September 30. The strikes were launched after a formal request from Damascus. Russian jets have been carrying out sorties from Moscow’s Khmeimim Air Base in Latakia.

On Thursday, Moscow recalled its military representative from Turkey. At the same time Russian Defense Ministry said that all channels of military cooperation with Ankara were suspended including a hotline set up to share information about Russian airstrikes in Syria.

Russia launches missiles amid war games, shows off military might

October 30, 2015 By administrator

199788Russia’s Defense Ministry says the military has conducted a series of ballistic and cruise missile launches from various sites across Russia in the latest demonstration of the nation’s resurgent military might, the Associated Press reports.

The ministry said Friday, October 30’s exercise involved launches from ground sites, sea and air in what appeared to be one of the largest such maneuvers this year.

The war games come as foreign ministers from Russia, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran and a dozen of other countries are meeting in Vienna to discuss a Syrian settlement.

The exercise involved the launch of a Kalibr cruise missile from a ship in the Caspian Sea. Earlier this month, Russian navy ships launched 26 such missiles at targets in Syria as part of Moscow’s air campaign that began on Sept. 30.

Syria: 4 Russian warships launch 26 missiles against ISIS from Caspian Sea

October 7, 2015 By administrator

561521cfc46188d5238b4587Russian warships have launched a total of 26 cruise missiles at Islamic State facilities, destroying all targets.
Russian warships have attacked Islamic State targets in Syria, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Wednesday during a meeting with President Putin.
“Besides using aviation to destroy militants, this morning ships from the Caspian Flotilla were brought in, four destroyers launched 26 Kalibr sea-based cruise missiles at 11 targets,” Shoigu told Putin in a meeting televised by Rossiya-1.
All targets were destroyed, Shoigu said. “The fact that we launched high-precision [cruise] missiles from the Caspian Sea at approximately 1,500 kilometers [932 miles] and hit all of the targets says much about the good training in the military-industrial complex and good skills of the staff,” he added.
President Putin expressed his gratitude to the pilots operating in airstrikes against the Islamic State in Syria. “Special thanks is due to the pilots who are operating in Syria, as well as the sailors from the Caspian Flotilla for their use of high-precision weapons,” he said.
Putin praised the Russian military operation against ISIL in Syria, but warned against early conclusions. “We know how difficult such anti-terrorism operations are, and, of course, it is too early to draw conclusions. But what has been done so far certainly deserves a highly positive assessment, both the work of the Ministry of Defense as a whole, the work of General Staff experts, and our officers, soldiers operating on the scene,” he said.

On September 30, Russia began airstrikes on ISIL in Syria following Syrian President Bashar Assad’s request for military assistance.
“From September 30 to this day, airstrikes have been carried out against 112 targets, their intensity is increasing,” Defense Minister Shoigu said.
“Twenty-three strike aircraft this morning continued to carry out airstrikes against militant positions. Since the 30th [of September], 19 command controls, 12 arms depots, 71 pieces of hardware, plants and shops for manufacturing explosive devices that are packed in vehicles. Six of these shops have been destroyed,” he specified.
