Armenian-Russian agreement on joint force to enable Armenia to improve supervision of Russian military base – Hrant Melik Shahnazaryan

December 4, 2016 By administrator

armenia-russia-agreementBy signing an Armenian-Russian agreement on joint armed force Armenia will not face any sovereignty-related problems, political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan told Tert.am.

In fact, the armed force has operated for a long period, and the new agreement will give new impetus to bilateral cooperation.
“I think by signing the agreement Armenia attempts to tighten its supervision of the Russian military base in Armenia. I think there was a need to resolve technical problems by means of such an agreement. We find ourselves in some controversial situations involving the military base, and the Armenian side cannot be properly involved in the process,” Mr Melik-Shahnazaryan said.

The agreement will not cause any problems to Armenia’s sovereignty unless any border tension occurs. Nor any problems are expected in terms of aid to Nagorno-Karabakh.

“Given the previous experience, especially the air-defense system, Armenia’s politico-military leadership did not allow similar agreements to restrict our troops from accomplishing their military and tactical tasks. I am sure that it is going to be so this time as well. There are ever mechanisms to utilize the potential of agreements in the Nagorno-Karabakh problem. Armenia officially stated it is a guarantor of Nagorno-Karabakh’s security and I am sure it will honor its commitments,” Mr Melik-Shahnazaryan said.

On the other hand, however many agreements are signed, Armenia relies on its own strength, without request any aid, which was the case this April.

“Agreements envisage deployment of additional forces, but not the main forces,” Mr Melik-Shahnazaryan said.

Yerevan DigiTec Business Forum to Focus on Military, Cyber Security

June 16, 2016 By administrator

yerevan-DigitecYEREVAN (ArmRadio)—The 9th DigiTec Business Forum will be held in Yerevan from June 17-18 with an aim of contributing to the search for best technological solutions, providing the technology companies with an opportunity to meet and present themselves to potential customers. About 70 organizations have applied for participation this year.

‘Yes for Europe’ forum of European Partners and an Armenian-German business forum will be held within the framework of the event.

Modernization of military industry through application of innovative technologies will be the key topic of the forum, Karen Vardanyan, Executive Director of the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE), said on Thursday.

The Armed Forces and UITE have established a joint commission to sum up the framework of issues that will be submitted to IT specialists for solution.

According to Vardanyan, three issues related to the modernization of military production are being considered today. “The short-term goal is to find solutions to counter the rival, which envisages either purchase of new weapons or modernization of old ones. The medium-term objective is to create new military industry on the basis of existing technologies. The third issue is a strategic one, we have to think of what kind of military industry we want to see in 15-20 years,” he said.

Representatives of the Armed Forces are expected to actively participate in the DigiTec forum.

Information security expert Samvel Martirosyan said the April war focused the attention on the need to ensure cyber security.

Azeri claims of military use of Islamic monuments false: Karabakh

May 30, 2016 By administrator

213458Azeri Foreign Ministry statement on the alleged military use of monuments of Islamic architecture located on the territory of Nagorno Karabakh does not correspond to reality, Karabakh Foreign Ministry said Monday, May 30.

“Azerbaijan, with its experience of using religious monuments for military purposes – proved by the transformation of the Kazanchetsots church in Shushi into a military warehouse in 1992 – is once again trying to attribute its own practices to Karabakh,” the Ministry said, characterizing the statement as another allegation in a series of Baku’s false accusations.

“A body of compelling evidence suggests systematic and deliberate destruction of Armenian cultural heritage sites by the Azerbaijani authorities on the whole territory of Azerbaijan, as well as in Karabakh’s occupied region of Shahumyan.”

“The most blatant act of vandalism is the destruction of the medieval Armenian khachkar cemetery near the town of Jugha (Julfa) in Nakhichevan and turning the site into a military range in 2005. Despite numerous international appeals, the Azerbaijani side, seeking to avoid responsibility, does not allow international experts to visit the area,” the Ministry added.

According to the Karabakh foreign policy agency, if the Azerbaijani authorities are genuinely interested in the implementation of the fact-finding mission to assess the situation with the historical and cultural monuments, and do not pursue merely political or propaganda-related goals, Karabakh can expect that the work of the mission will start from visiting Shahumyan region and Nakhichevan.

“At the same time, we consider it necessary to note that all the monuments located in the territory of Karabakh, irrespective of their origin, are included in the State Registry of the Historical and Cultural Immobile Monuments and are under state protection,” the Ministry said.

“The Nagorno Karabakh Republic has been and remains open to international cooperation for the protection and preservation of cultural and historical heritage, and expects a similar openness from Azerbaijan.”
