Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan sees no immediate cause for concern about the security of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh against the background of ongoing military exercises in Azerbaijan.
“The situation is controlled by the command staff of the Armenian armed forces and the corresponding services in charge of national security. Appropriate measures are taken in case of tensions. The current events being conducted by Azerbaijan give no cause for concern. We carry out our work on a daily basis,” Ohanyan told media on Thursday.
Earlier, the Defense Ministry of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) reported more frequent ceasefire violations as well as use of larger-caliber weapons by Azerbaijan. It also said that Azerbaijani air forces have intensified training flights and carry them out some 10-15 kilometers away from the Line of Contact.
“The NKR air defense force detects training flights of Azerbaijani aircraft and vigilantly tracks their trajectory,” it said, warning that the anti-aircraft defense will take all necessary measures to destroy “enemy air targets” in case of violation of the NKR airspace.
