Paris: Marine Le Pen, Erdogan “can say thank you” Merkel & Hollande

November 2, 2015 By administrator

marine-le-penParis, November 2, 2015 (AFP) – The president of the Marine Front National Le Pen ruled Monday that Recep Tayyip Erdogan, whose Islamic-conservative formation AKP has largely won Sunday Turkish legislation, could “say thank you” to Merkel, Holland.

“Going to worship before the one that remains of a free press in Istanbul or Ankara describes as Sultan, Merkel -suivie by redundant calls to the integration of Turkey into the European Union Mr Holland- has given Erdogan decisive legitimacy, “wrote Ms. Le Pen in a statement.

“The human rights abuses, repression of peaceful protests of the youth, multiple provocations Turkish President against European countries (even on French soil, such as recently in Strasbourg) will have found themselves faced with the total complacency Merkel-Hollande torque, “said the far-right leader.

“By taking its people hostage in the name of a struggle against the instability that he knowingly organized, Erdogan can now count on the leaders of the European Union to deploy out the red carpet to Brussels. With Merkel, Hollande and others, it will not only European Turkey, but the Turkish Europe “, launching the MEP.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was preparing Monday to install a government entirely to his hand after the unexpected landslide victory as his party in the parliamentary, which has revived fears about his authoritarian tendencies.

Hollande called Erdogan to “gathering and unity” of the country after the landslide victory of his party in parliamentary, in a telephone interview Monday night.

Merkel-Erdogun-rescueErdogan Wins Big – Great News for Merkel

Turkey prepared well for Merkel’s visit. In return of agreeing on a common EU–Turkey Joint Action Plan on migrants, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmed Davutoglu requested four points: the opening of negotiation chapters with the EU, visa liberalization for Turks traveling to the EU, 3 billion euro to deal with the refugees, and the invitation of Turkish leaders to EU summits.

These four points are Turkish frustrations dating back to more than 10 years. In April 2004, the United Nations organized a referendum on the Kofi Annan plan to solve the Cyprus dispute, Turkey’s decades-long occupation and partition of the island. Turkey convinced the Turkish Cypriots to vote in favour. The Greek Cypriots, however, voted against the plan. Nevertheless, the Greek part of Cyprus became a member of the EU in May 2004. In the years to come, it would do everything to block the process of Turkish membership.

Germany’s Merkel, Gauck refuse to visit Baku over political prisoners

June 5, 2015 By administrator

193302German leadership and government members will not attend the opening ceremony of the European Games in Baku on June 12. The cancellation is caused by a protest against the fact that there are over 100 political prisoners in Azerbaijan, including opposition activists, journalists and human rights defenders, Panorama.am reports citing German newspaper DerTagesspiegel.

According to the article published at DerTagesspiegel, German Chancellor Angela Merkel won’t be travelling to Baku. The Minister of the Interior, Thomas de Maizière who supervises sports sector has also turned down the trip, with Joachim Gauck, the President of Germany to stay in Berlin on June 12.

DerTagesspiegel further notes that the Azeri ruling regime has recently intensified the crackdowns. The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders said that the laters are relentlessly prosecuted and repressed in Azerbaijan. “During President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Berlin in February, Merkel said that she disagreed with Ilham Aliyev regarding the human rights situation in the country,” the author of the article Claudia von Salzen notes.

She further says that there are over 100 opposition activists, journalists and human rights defenders in Azerbaijani jail. Well-known activist Rasul Jafarov, who tried to draw attention to human rights situation his country ahead of the European Games, is among them.

The newspaper points that the Chancellor, the Minister of the Interior and the President normally attend events of such level.

According to Turan agency, another influential German outlet Frankfurter Allgemeine reported that the German athletes urged for the release of the political prisoners in Azerbaijan. By this, they supported the call of the Council of Europe Commissioner Nils Muižnieks, UN special rapporteur Michel Forst, and OSCE special representative Dunja Mijatović.

The author of the article, Christoph Becker, notes that Christian Schreiber from the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) told the newspaper that respect for the fundamental human rights and the right for criticism is vital. “We join UN envoy’s call on all the countries to respect those rights,” he stressed.

According to the article, Michael Vesper from DOSB also endorsed UN rapporteur’s call.

In June, Azerbaijan will host the first ever European Games, with Formula 1 Grand Prixto be held in 2016. According to the international rights groups, the Azerbaijani authorities have intensified the crackdowns against the dissidents so that nothing can overshadow the two huge sport events to be hosted. The European Games will cost several billion dollars. Demolition of a large number of houses started in 2014 in Baku in the framework of the preparatory works for the Games.

Germany: Greens’ leader: We’ll pay the price for booing Merkel at Erdoğan rally

May 27, 2014 By administrator

By TODAY’S ZAMAN/ ANKARA

Cem Özdemir, the co-chair of Germany’s Greens Party, has said the booing of German Chancellor Angela Merkel by Turks living in Germany during 185602_newsdetailTurkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s speech in Cologne was an “ugly” scene that will raise question marks over Turks’ loyalty to Germany.

Erdoğan has lost support of “100 percent of Germany,” according to Özdemir.

“When the crowd booed Merkel, it made a very bad impression; it was an ugly scene. It will remain in the minds [of Germans]. We will pay the price for it,” Özdemir said in an interview with the Zaman daily published on May 26.

Özdemir, who is of Turkish origin, was commenting on Erdoğan’s appearance in Cologne on Saturday to address Turkish citizens in Germany at an event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Union of European Turkish Democrats (UETD), a Turkish civil society organization based in Germany. Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd of about 20,000 in a Cologne sports arena, Erdoğan said that Merkel called him to extend her condolences for the Soma mine disaster on May 13. When Erdoğan mentioned Merkel’s name, the crowd booed. However, when Erdoğan thanked Merkel the crowd switched from boos to cheers and applause.

The booing of Merkel will stir a debate about Turks’ loyalty to Germany, Özdemir said. “You are living here, making a living here, paying your taxes and sending your children to school here and taking the advantages of the social state here. But you boo this country’s chancellor and idolize another country’s prime minister. Then the issue of loyalty will be brought into question. We have been attempting [to convince the German people] for 50 years that we are loyal citizens. We say, ‘Trust us, there’s no need to fear.’ But the attitude of those in the hall refutes all we are advocating,” he said.

The crowd at Erdoğan’s rally in Cologne appeared as if they were living in an enemy country, Özdemir stated, adding that the intense level of admiration for Erdoğan among his supporters both surprises and scares German society. Protests held by opposition Turkish groups against Erdoğan in which at least 50,000 attended, according to German police in Cologne, also caused fear among Germans, said Özdemir. “Previously, there was a rift between Turks and Kurds or left and right; now there’s fear whether there will be a polarization between Erdoğan’s supporters and dissidents.”

Erdoğan’s appearance brought more tension to Germany, and the Turkish prime minister has become the symbol of the “negative image of Turkey,” according to the Greens politician.

“There was an expectation among the German society as if a monster was coming. A frightening image of Erdoğan appeared because of his speeches about the mine disaster so that people were almost going to lock their children at home because of that danger. Erdoğan cannot change this image easily. In recent years there was a positive image of Turkey; however, it has been reversed, and Erdoğan has become the symbol of a negative image of Turkey,” Özdemir said.
