Switzerland, through the Federal Office of Justice ruled Tuesday for a review of the case of the Turkish nationalist Dogu Perinçek, convicted for publicly called Armenian genocide “international lie” and had succeeded with ECHR on December 17, in the name of freedom of expression.
That date, almost 100 years after the fact, had sadly mark the consecration of denial against which I fight for many years and I wish to see penalized faster.
From that date, Switzerland has three months to appeal the decision. Indeed, the European Convention on Human Rights provides the opportunity to review a case by the Grand Chamber, particularly if the case raises a serious question affecting the interpretation or application of the Convention.
So a few days before the deadline of March 17 that Switzerland has decided to ask the ECHR to review the case Perinçek.
What good news! After a long wait, I welcome this position of Switzerland, which was obviously very expected by the Armenian community. Armenian associations Switzerland are highly mobilized possibly including a petition that has collected more than 10,000 signatures. Congratulations to all for this great mobilization that will, I hope, to finally triumph of justice!
I call my vows a return to reason ECHR and I hope that, this time, she will make a balance between freedom of expression and denial of genocide.
