October 24, 2016 By administrator

Dresdner Sinfoniker will perform “Aghet”, a production commemorating the Armenian Genocide, in at the German Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey on November 13.

Besides Erdogan, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and Minister of Culture Nabi Avci have also been invited to the event.

According to Turkey-based Armenian newspaper Agos, the invitation sent to Erdogan says the concert seeks to establish cooperation among artists of the three countries.

Also, the invitation said, the event is organized with the support of the German Foreign Ministry and the European Union.

The orchestra said on April 23 that Turkey attempted to pressure it and the EU to keep the term genocide out of the same concert it ended up playing on April 30 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Genocide.

The controversy then centered on texts that were sung or spoken during the show in the eastern German city of Dresden, as well as the event’s programme, which used the word.

Director of the Dresdner Sinfoniker orchestra Markus Rindt said the concert matters to Germany a lot as the country “bears its own share of responsibility for the massacres.”

Turkish press covers Sargsyan’s response by rejecting invitation to Erdogan’s April 24 invitation

January 17, 2015 By administrator

turkish pressAll Turkish media have covered Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s response to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s April 24 invitation letter.

Presenting the Armenian president’s response, several Turkish pro-government media cited solely Sargsyan’s following words: “It is not a common practice for us [, Armenians,] to be hosted at the invitee’s, without receiving a response to our [own] invitation.”

And some other Turkish media noted that Sargsyan had stressed that Erdogan’s invitation to take part in the events commemorating the centenary of the Battle of Gallipoli to be held on April 24 of this year was made intentionally, and it serves, “if not a simple-minded goal to distract the attention of the international community from the events [to be held on April 24 of this year and] dedicated to the centennial of the Armenian Genocide.”

YEREVAN. – No one should pin hopes that the centennial of the Armenian Genocide is a limit of our trial, President Serzh 211310Sargsyan said on Tuesday (photo).

The President attended a meeting of the fourth meeting of a state commission dealing with preparations for the 100th anniversary of Armenian Genocide. The meeting focused on clarifying the schedule and strategy of the commission, and bought together representatives of regional commissions, experts, Armenian diplomats and the clergy.

“Crimes against humanity can not be expire. Recognition and condemnation of the terrible chapters of human history is the only way to prevent genocides. We, as people who survived the Genocide, have a special mission to rule out repetition of similar disasters,” President said in his speech.

He noted that Ankara takes new steps, which sometimes are unprecedented in their form, but, unfortunately, reflect the content of the same century-old denial policy by Turkey. They repeat the famous Turkish position, trying to distort history by putting a victim and an executioner at the same level and by comparing the incomparable.

“The only possible step that Turkish authorities should make to get rid of the heavy burden of past is to recognize the Armenian Genocide. It is impossible to achieve serious results by half-steps,” he said.

President informed about numerous invitations sent to the heads of several states to visit Armenia on April 24 and pay tribute to 1.5 million innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide.

“If the Turkish authorities are interested in truth, they must come to Armenia and stand next to the Armenian people on April 24. I do not think that after this they can voice the idea of visiting archives. Taking an occasion, I would like to officially invite the president of Turkey, who will be elected during the upcoming elections, to visit Armenia on April 24, 2015 and stand face to face with the eloquent evidence of the Armenian Genocide history,” he added.
