New Azeri incursions prevented in Karabakh

December 27, 2014 By administrator

arton106454-480x270The Armenian Army of Nagorno-Karabakh said Thursday they had foiled the night two Azerbaijani commando raids on its front-line positions.

In a statement, the NKR Defense Army said that Azerbaijan raids were launched on two sections of the “line of contact” southeast of Karabakh. She said the attackers used hand grenades and other “offensive weapons” before being repulsed by Armenian troops from Karabakh.

“The first line of detachments of the Defense Army … have inflicted losses to the special forces of the enemy and forced to retreat to their starting positions. The defending army suffered no losses in confronting the enemy, “the statement added.

The Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan was quick to dismiss such claims as “disinformation.”

“There are no casualties among our staff,” he has said, according to the APA news agency. “By sharing this information Armenians prepare the ground for provocations planned by them.”

The army of Karabakh reported Dec. 8 a similar incursion attempt which caused the death of an Armenian soldier. She had claimed to have killed five Azerbaijani soldiers in this event. The Azerbaijani side had denied attacking the Armenian positions have been victims.

The Defense Ministry in Baku later said on December 8 that Azerbaijani soldier was killed and another seriously injured when a military vehicle carrying them hit a mine. The Department reported another fatal traffic incident involving Azerbaijani military ten days later. He explained that the Azerbaijani army captain and a warrant officer died as a result of the accident.

The Armenian army has long claimed that Baku attributes part of his battle deaths in such accidents in the hope of minimizing the National People’s anger. The commando units of the two warring parties are deemed to comprise mainly officers and contract soldiers.

Stepanakert Authorities said Thursday that the last event reported was another blow to international efforts to resolve the Karabakh conflict, which are led by the US, Russia and France. Davit Babayan, a senior Karabakh, said that the Armenian side continues to support calls that require mediators to the conflicting parties to withdraw snipers from the front lines and take other measures to build confidence .

“Despite the fact that the responses of the Armenian side and preventive and defensive actions are more painful to the enemy, they apparently continue to stick to a policy decision [to keep energized position] said Artsrun Hovannisian, spokesman of the Armenian Defense Ministry, Armenian service RFE / RL (Azatutyun.am).

Hovannisian said that 2014 was “the most tense year” in the conflict zone since the cease-fire of 1994 achieved through the Russian mediation which had stopped the war in Karabakh. He described as a “micro war” the upsurge in August deadly violations of the ceasefire in the disputed territory.
