The Turkish intelligence services searched for Armenian identity in Ogün Samast, who carried out the murder of Hrant Dink—the founder and chief editor of Agos Armenian bilingual weekly of Istanbul, who was gunned down on January 19, 2007 in front of Agos’ then-office in Istanbul—, and in Yasin Hayal, who is one of the persons who had planned and organized this murder.

A document has entered into the files of the murder case, and according to which, after Dink’s murder, the Turkish police intelligence agency started looking for Armenian traces in Samast and Hayal, according to Agos.

In October 2015, the police investigation department sent a report to the court, and which was prepared several days after the murder.

The report notes that the ethnic roots of Ogün Samast and Yasin Hayal were thoroughly examined, and no Armenian traces were found.

But the report does not say why the Turkish police conducted such an inquiry.
