Firefighters say at least one person was killed when an abandoned 26-story building in Sau Paulo caught fire early Tuesday and collapsed.

Firefighters say at least one person was killed after an abandoned high-rise in Sau Paulo collapsed following an explosion that sparked a massive fire early Tuesday morning.

NPR reports that 150 firefighters were on scene after the 26-story structure erupted in flames due to a gas explosion on one of the lower floors at around 1:30 a.m. The ensuing collapse, which was captured on cell phone video, showered the surrounding streets with fiery embers and killed at least one person.

Reports say at least 50 families were squatting inside the building since it was abandoned as the headquarters of the South American nation’s federal police.
