RT Naked Russian girl braves sub-zero temperatures in Siberia to protect fir trees (VIDEO)

January 1, 2018 By administrator

A student from the Russian city of Irkutsk has offered an alternative and novel way to celebrate winter holidays, protesting against felling by adorning a tree in the forest… With her naked self.

“It’s not necessary to fell trees to get into festive mood,” 21-year-old Liana Klevtsova wrote on her page in social network, Vkontakte. Much better to decorate a tree in its natural environment, she added. To prove her point, the girl – also au naturel – took to a snow covered Siberian forest and posed next to a fir tree, all shining bright.

Enough “lungs of the planet” are being lost in forest fires during warmer months, she said, calling on all not to add to the losses in the winter period. There are many fake trees to choose from on the market, she went on, saying that those craving natural beauty should follow her suit (or rather the lack of one).

The protest has divided online community, with some applauding the girl and others accusing her of “self promotion.” Klevtsova has previously revealed her body in various demonstrations, having protested both against high gasoline prices and low bus fares, according to the KP daily.

The 10-year-old girl told Iraqi soldiers 'I thought you'd never come'

The 10-year-old girl told Iraqi soldiers ‘I thought you’d never come’

Ten-year-old Aysha tells troops how her father, as well as other children, have been killed by Islamic State in her village of Kafel, near Iraq’s second city

This is the heartbreaking moment a little girl weeps and offers to ‘kiss the feet’ of forces arriving to reclaim her city from Islamic State.

Ten-year-old Aysha tells troops “I thought you’d never come” as they arrived near Mosul in northern Iraq, which has been under ISIS control since 2014.

The child described how her village Kafer, around 18 miles from Mosul, had been ripped apart by the Islamist extremists.

She said her father, as well as other children in the village, had been killed and her family left with nothing.

She spoke emotionally into a camera as Iraqi soldiers arrived, saying: “I’m so thankful to you, I thought you’d never come for us.

“We had no food or water for three days and I was just me and my mother.

“My father was killed by the terrorists,” she continued.

“The IS men have taken away so many children from the village and we don’t know what happened to them.

“Some of them died. The men made my mother give them money and jewels and we have nothing.

“Thank you, thank you. I would like to kiss your feet”.

Kazakh Armenian girl creates website, which helps scientists worldwide

February 11, 2016 By administrator

armenian girlAccess to scientific works is so expensive nowadays that even the Harvard University has no enough money for that.

15,000 academics recently signed a petition, in which they urged to boycott Elsevier academic publishing company for charging exorbitantly high prices for scientific works.

The income of the company is over billion dollars, while the academics get nothing for their publications. Often they don’t even have access to their own works, since their universities might not be subscribed.

Thus, to publish an open access work in Cognition journal, the researcher must pay over 2,000 dollars.

And without publications in an authoritative journals it’s impossible to make a career in the scientific world, this resulting in a catch-22 situation, Meduza writes.

Consequently, the academics have to find different ways to get access to the necessary works.

For instance, they have created a special forum, where they ask a colleague to forward certain work. A “professional” Twitter hashtag – #icanhazpdf – also serves this end.

Alexandra Elbakyan, who studied at Kazakh National Technical University, also faced the situation where she couldn’t afford buying expensive articles. And thus she made up her mind to struggle. In 2011, Elbakyan created the website Sci-Hub. It works as follows: After the query is entered, the system checks whether the needed work is in the database of another pirate website LibGen. If not, the algorithm gets round the paywall on the website of the publishing company or the necessary journal.

The access keys are provided by the academics whose universities are linked to a certain database. The article requested for the first time is every time added to LibGen database. During the next query, Sci-Hub must take it from there.

In November 2015, the New York court ruled to discard the domain sci-hub.org. LibGen’s domain was also discarded.  Elsevier assured the court that thousand of works were downloaded from them every day via Sci-Hub.

Elbakyan says that if all publications and journals are considered, the number of downloaded articles will reach hundred and thousands. The websites, however, get more independent with each downloaded work: they need to take the document only once.

Elsevier assessed its losses in $750-150 000 for each downloaded work, i.e. a total of billion dollars of losses may be involved.

However, most probably nobody will appear in the American court, since Sci-Hub and LibGen servers are in Russia and the Netherlands, whereas the websites already work by other domains.

Alexandra Elbakyan stands for the freedom of disseminating information. In a letter to the American court, she slammed Elsevier for charging money from academics.

DILIJAN (News.am) — To not only play computer games, but also write them yourself – this is what Anushik Melkonyan, 9, from Armenia’s Dilijan town wants and can do. From a very early age, Anushik watched with her mother, Narine Danielyan – a mathematician and programmer – work in front of a computer for hours.  Then she began creating images with photos of her relatives, accompanied by music.

Anushik’s mother described how even though she was taught programming beginning from first grade, her teacher was able to skillfully captivate her interest and this helped her progress greatly.

Anushik creates computer games by the “Scratch” graphic programming language designed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Learning about the “DigiCode – 2015” Youth Contest of Applied Programming, Anushik and her mom hurried to take part in it. Anushik won the mathematical game in the nomination “Best game” in the age group of 13 year olds.

The girl is looking forward to “DigiCode – 2016”. She has even created a new mathematical game for it – “Scales.” But Anushik didn’t stop here and is now working on the game “Four photos, one word.”

Oddly enough, after classes Anushik spends only one hour in front of the computer. The girl loves days off most of all, since then she can sit at the computer longer and create new games. On other days, she goes in for dancing and swimming. Anushik says she has no dreams but only wishes. And her wish is to achieve greater success in the area of programming so that one day she can see her games among the best ones on the page of “Scratch”. Besides, she wants to take part in contests and win, become a famous programmer and create works.

Mother of the 9-year-old programmer wants her daughter to graduate from the Dilijan Central School with honors and enter the United World College in Dilijan. According to her, wide perspectives will open for her daughter after graduating from that institution.

On New Year, Anushik asked Santa Clause to bring her a box of plasticine and Lego Robot. The girl urges her peers to believe in Santa Clause, get good presents from him and enjoy the New Year. To programmers and herself she wishes new ideas and their successful implementation.

Yazidi girl gives account of sex slavery by ISIL

December 22, 2014 By administrator

Yazidi-womanAn Izadi girl has given a blow-by-blow account of the way the ISIL Takfiri group enslaved and abused thousands of women in the Iraqi town of Sinjar.

“They were local Sunni” militants, “some of whom we recognized,” the 19-year-old Izadi girl, who introduced herself as Girl B, told The Times, recalling a day in early August when the Takfiri militants captured Sinjar. reported by Presstv

The militants reportedly killed hundreds of residents, kidnapped and enslaved hundreds of Izadi women and girls, and forced tens of thousands to seek refuge on Mount Sinjar.

Girl B, along with her younger sisters, was among the captured and enslaved people.

“A local mechanic was among them. The Sunni men in our area became Daesh as soon as they got a smell of them approaching. No one even had to ask them to join,” Girl B added.

The Yazidi girl noted that the Takfiri militants took hundreds of Yazidi captives to a building in Sinjar and separated them there.

“The Daesh took our names and ages and noted everything down,” said Girl B, adding, “Then they began dividing us: the men to one side, woman and children to another. Then they selected the young women, both married and unmarried. They told me and my two younger sisters to join that last group. We didn’t know what was happening, but our mother realised, and she began screaming.”

“My mother started screaming and begging for mercy as the Daesh [IS] fighters told my sister and me to join the group of younger women specially selected,” the 19-year-old Izadi girl said, further noting, “But they tore us from her grasp.”

The slaves were then taken to dozens of lorries, pick-ups and dumper trucks in order to be transferred to Mosul where they were sold to the Takfiri group’s senior officials, the girl said.

“I saw other women in the building being dragged out to waiting lorries by their hair,” Girl B said, pointing, “It was organized, and they took us away like cattle.”

In Mosul the slaves were taken to the city’s “Galaxy Hall”, holding centre belonging to the Takfiri group, the Izadi girl said, adding that the enslaved Yazidi women were further subcategorized there and were moved to new centers.

The girl said that the slaves were selected by ISIL commanders the same way as “sheep” and were taken to the house of a prominent ISIL sheikh in the town of Baaj.

“There, the commanders of the Daesh came to look at us again,” Girl B said, explaining, “We were lined up while they came to inspect and buy us. I could see the dinars change hands.”

The girl said her buyer was “Abu Ghuffram”, an ISIS (ISIL) commander in his forties. The girl further noted that Ghuffram was a local Sunni and was reputed for criminal acts before the crisis begins in the area.

The girl along with two other slaves were taken to Ghuffram’s house in the village of Rambussi where they had to serve the ISIL commander and two of his captains.

“Sometimes he would call me by name and talk reasonably,” said Girl B, adding, “At other times the men would insult our Yazidi faith and curse us. If Abu Ghuffram was angry he would strike or kick me. Once he put his hands around my throat and tried to choke me.”

It was also discovered by Izadi health workers that the three girls had been raped numerous times by the three ISIL militants.

Girl B and the two other girls escaped captivity one night in late November, managed to reach the slopes of the Sinjar Mountains, where they met with Izadi fighters and were taken to Dohuk in Iraq’s Kurdistan region by helicopter.

According to Izadi activists, 3,500 women and children are missing as captives and sex slaves. They also say that 2,000 Izadi men are also missing, many of whom feared to have been executed.

“We have raped and pregnant cases; children who have escaped without parents; parents without children. We have cases of women who have been raped by just one Daesh fighter, and cases of women who have been multiply raped and sold several times among ISIS (ISIL) fighters. We have found women sold for dollars 25, for dollars 100, for dollars 1,000. We have it all,” Khider Domle, a Yazidi activist helping escapees in Dohuk said.

On Saturday, Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga fighters distributed aid on Mount Sinjar after breaking the ISIL terror group’s months-long siege on the area in northwestern Iraq.

The ISIL terrorists control some parts of Syria and Iraq.
