Cycle Against Genocide Denial Set for April 10 in Santa Monica
SANTA MONICA — For the first time, the Cycle Against Denial bike-a-thon hosted by the Armenian Youth Federation San Fernando Valley “Sardarabad” Chapter will be held in the city of Santa Monica on April 10.
The Cycle Against Denial is an annual bike rally to commemorate the Armenian Genocide and to raise awareness against all genocides. The bike rally usually takes place in the San Fernando Valley and starts from the Holy Martyrs Armenian Apostolic Church in Encino but for the first time, the “Sardarabad” Chapter decided to branch out and bring something new to this annual event.
“We feel that we needed to change an aspect of this great event and thought that taking the bike rally to Santa Monica would bring more exposure to our cause, especially since the location is near the Santa Monica Pier,” said Arek Soulahian, Cycle Against Denial Committee Co-Chairperson. “From the new location, there will be a great deal of people that will get to see the cyclists participating in the event and learn why we work so hard to spread awareness and genocide recognition,” added Soulahian.
The location where the registration table will be set up and the bike rally will begin is at 1640 Appian Way, Santa Monica, California 90401.
Registration will begin at 11 a.m. at the location mentioned above. It will be free and includes a t-shirt. The ride will begin approximately at 1 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes but there will be bike rental locations close by where participants will be able to pay and rent bikes for the event.
The bike rental locations close to the registration table are the following:
Sea Mist Rentals, 1619 Ocean Front Walk, Santa Monica, CA 90401
Santa Monica Bike Center, 1555 2nd St, Santa Monica, CA 90401
Breeze BikeShare, located at Palisades Park.
Please join us in commemorating the 101st Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
The event is open to all ages. For any questions, please email cycleagainstdenial@gmail.com or visit the Facebook Event page https://www.facebook.com/events/786236234853740/.

Akçam’s book “The Armenian Issue is Resolved” republished in Turkey for seventh time
The Turkish İletişim Publishing House has for the seventh time republished the book “The Armenian Issue is Resolved,” authored by the famous Genocide scholar, professor Taner Akçam, Akunq.net reports.
According to the source, in response to the general dissatisfaction, Young Turkish Unity and Progress Party cleared the lands of Anatolia from non-Muslim elements and “turkisized” them right in the aftermath of the Balkan wars. The WWI became one of the most important milestones of that policy.
It created a convenient climate for the exile and forced deportation of ethnic elements. The large-scale “deportation” against Armenians in 1915 became the last phase of “turkising.”
Taner Akçam, who carried out research on the basis of the Ottoman Empire documents, draws attention to the question on what the primary sources say on this. The author presents the activities carried out upon the order of Talaat Pasha, being under his permanent control. The author also answers the question on why the Armenians were “deported” to different districts of Anatolia.

Murad Papazyan: Political competition observed between Armenian, Turkish communities of France
”Armenians of France are preparing for the April 24. The events will call for restoration of justice and restitution, rallies are expected in number of French cities, while the march planned in Paris will be organized along with the Government of France,” co-Chairman of the Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations of France Murad Papazyan told reporters at a press conference.
Papazyan outlined their main mission to demonstrate to the world that the struggle of the Armenian people does end with Centennial Anniversary of the Genocide and they will continue their activity to address number of other matters.
Papazyan then noted there is a political competition between Armenian and Turkish communities in France.
”Turks are taking up measures to develop relations with the French President. However, François Hollande fully backs the Armenian National Committee, as we have constantly developed out relations with the French President over the last 3-4 years,” the speaker said.
Papazyan assured that the Armenian community of France is powerful and never quits its competition with the Turks. The speaker then reflected on the Azerbaijani lobbing in France carried out through squandering funds to gain success in the political circles.
Terrorist State of Turkey boosts efforts to further deny Armenian Genocide
Turkish Historical Society (TTK) compiles data, articles and “other works” to further deny the Armenian Genocide, Daily Sabah reports.
1.5 million Armenians were killed in the Genocide at the hands of the Ottoman Empire during World War I in 1915. Turkey accepts the mass deaths of Armenians during their forced deportation during the war, but claims the death toll was much lower and attributes mass deaths to diseases and isolated cases of attacks.
TTK started compiling all articles on the issue written in Turkey and throughout the world to publish books on the genocide. The organization plans to sent the books to libraries across the country as well as international historians.
Speaking to Habertürk daily, TTK President Refik Turan said articles included “indisputable scientific facts.”
In April 2014, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was prime minister at the time, offered condolences for “the Armenian deaths” that occurred in 1915 – a first for a Turkish leader.
Rwanda takes top-level suspect in genocide into custody from Congo
Congo’s justice minister Alexis Thambwe Mwamba announced that one of the most wanted suspects in the 1994 Rwandan genocide has been extradited. Ladislas Ntaganzwa is to face trial in Rwanda.
Ladislas Ntaganzwa’s arrest in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2015 came more than two decades after the genocide. He was flown from Kinshasa to Kigali to face trial three months after his arrest.
AAA urges Obama administration to affirm Armenian Genocide as U.S. confirms crimes committed by ISIS
A leading Armenian advocacy group in the United States has urged the Obama administration to affirm the Ottoman-era genocide of Armenians as Washington has confirmed crimes committed by ISIS are genocide.
On March 17, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry stated that ISIS (Daesh) is “responsible for genocide,” against groups in Syria and Iraq, including Yezidis, Christians, and Shia Muslims. The recognition was prompted by H.Con.Res.75, which includes Armenians as one of the Christian groups persecuted by ISIS, reports the Armenian Assembly of American (AAA).
“We know that in areas under its control, Daesh has made a systematic effort to destroy the cultural heritage of ancient communities – destroying Armenian, Syrian Orthodox, and Roman Catholic churches…” Kerry stated.
In his statement, Kerry also invoked one of the criteria of genocide as defined by the 1948 UN Convention. “One element of genocide is the intent to destroy an ethnic or religious group, in whole or in part. We know that Daesh has given some of its victims a choice between abandoning their faith or being killed, and that for many is a choice between one kind of death and another,” Kerry said.
“Confronted with harrowing reports of similar crimes and atrocities, U.S. Ambassador Henry Morgenthau in 1915 alerted the State Department and the world to the horrors taking place in the Ottoman Empire, stating that a ‘campaign of race extermination’ was underway against the Armenian people, and urged action to stop the slaughter,” observed AAA Executive Director Bryan Ardouny.
“Today (March 17), Secretary Kerry responded to the unspeakable crimes carried out by ISIS. ‘Naming these crimes is important. But what is essential is to stop them,’ Kerry stated. His statement recalls Morgenthau’s warning and the need to act. As President Obama has said, ‘America deserves a leader who speaks truthfully about the Armenian Genocide and responds forcefully to all genocides.’ We therefore call upon the Obama administration to also unequivocally affirm the Armenian Genocide,” Ardouny continued.
Earlier this week, the Assembly welcomed passage in the U.S. House of Representatives of H.Con.Res.75, a resolution condemning ISIS atrocities.
