FRANCE Valerie Boyer filed a new bill aimed at punishing the denial of genocide and crimes against humanity of the twentieth century

September 3, 2014 By administrator

At a time when we are preparing to commemorate the centenary of the Armenian genocide, there is no law still allows France to punish denial of genocide and crimes against arton102958-400x393humanity, with the exception of the Holocaust. While two genocides are officially recognized by France, the Holocaust and the Armenian Genocide of 1915 (recognized by the law of 29 January 2001), only the denial of the Holocaust is that sanctioned by the Gayssot day, thus creating competition briefs. This unjust situation must end, both for the criminalization of the denial of the genocide of 1915 than for the other genocides that wish to recognize France.

I already had in 2011 proposed a law along the lines of EU law on the fight against racism and repression of genocide recognized by French law with which the Armenian genocide. The bill was adopted by all groups in the National Assembly and the Senate on January 23 2012 Unfortunately, it was the subject of censorship of the Constitutional Council, on the grounds that the denial part of freedom of expression, ending the attempted criminalization of Holocaust denial.

Yet the opportunity to punish denial of all genocides and crimes against humanity echoes a burning issue in the context of persecution against Eastern Christians in Iraq in particular, described by Ban Ki-Moon of crimes against humanity.

It is necessary and urgent to legislate to propose a new classification of denial. I’m so used to working to draft an alternative and innovative version, the fruit of reflection that I conducted with leading lawyers criminal lawyers. That is why I propose that denial is no longer considered by the law as a simple abuse of freedom of expression, but as a crime against humanity.

This has two advantages: exit the opposite by the Constitutional Council on freedom of expression and protection of all genocides recognized by our law legal impasse.

This is a legislative enriched that I suggest to co-signed by my colleagues, a nonpartisan law to the public interest that overcomes the partisan considerations. This text is intended to be universal because it protects all genocides recognized by French law and is in compliance with Human Rights. This law will soon be available on the website of the National Assembly and wish consideration intervene soon because this cause is close to my heart but it is especially critical to our commitment and our law.

Baku “mortified” over France’s demand to return Armenian captive’s body

August 22, 2014 By administrator

France urges UN Security Council meeting as Islamic State seizes Christian town

August 7, 2014 By administrator

0,,17748702_303,00Paris has requested an urgent UN Security Council meeting after jihadist insurgents took control of the Iraq’s largest Christian town, forcing thousands to flee. The country has also been hit by a new wave of bombings.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius on Thursday called for a meeting of the UN Security Council after Islamist militants in northern Iraq seized the country’s largest Christian town and nearby villages.

The new gains by “Islamic State” (IS) militants have reportedly prompted thousands of Christians to flee the northern town of Qaraqosh and surrounding areas, residents and Christian clerics said on Thursday.

“Given the seriousness of the situation – the first victims of which are civilians and religious minorities – France is requesting an urgent meeting of the Security Council so the international community can mobilize to counter the terrorist threat in Iraq and support and protect the population at risk,” Fabius said in a statement.

The takeovers are the latest gains by IS, an al Qaeda splinter group formerly known as ISIS. Over the weekend the Sunni militants dealt a humiliating defeat on Kurdistan’s military – the Peshmerga – across the north.

Bishop Joseph Tomas said Qaraqoush and at least four other predominantly Christian villages were in the hands of IS and that Kurdish units, which had protected the area, had also fled. Other priests confirmed the information.

“It’s a catastrophe, a tragic situation,” Tomas told the AFP news agency, “We call on the UN Security Council to immediately intervene. Tens of thousands of terrified people are being displaced as we speak, it cannot be described.”

Families on the march

According to residents, many are fleeing to autonomous Kurdistan.

“Most families are fleeing the town towards the province of Dahuk in Kurdistan,” a resident said.

Many thousands of Iraq’s Christians have been forced to flee their homes since the IS seized large chunks of the country in a lightning advance in June.

As the IS pressed on with its expansion in the north, a suicide bomber killed 14 people in a Shiite area of Baghdad on Thursday.

Since the militants seized much of the country’s north and west, there has been a renewed campaign of bombings against Baghdad, particularly in Shiite areas. A series of car bombings on Wednesday night killed 51.

As many as nine people were also killed on Thursday in two car bombings in the Kurdish-held Iraqi oil city of Kirkuk.

France says ready to welcome Christians from northern Iraq

July 28, 2014 By administrator

France said on Monday, July 28, it is ready to welcome Christians from northern Iraq who have been told by the al Qaeda offshoot group now ruling the region to either convert to Islam, pay a religious levy or face 81149_943014268death, Reuters reported.

Islamic State insurgents seized large swathes of northern Iraq last month, prompting hundreds of Christian families in Mosul to flee a city which has hosted the faith since its earliest years.

“We are providing aid to displaced people fleeing from the threats of Islamic Sate and who have sought refuge in Kurdistan. We are ready, if they wish, to facilitate their asylum on our soil,” France’s Foreign and Interior Ministers said in a joint statement.

“We are in constant contact with local and national authorities to ensure everything is done to protect them.”

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki earlier this month condemned the treatment of the Christians and instructed a government committee to help those made homeless. However, he has not said when the army might try to win back control of Mosul.

Islamic State has warned all women in Mosul to wear full-face veils or risk severe punishment. The Sunni insurgents, who have declared a caliphate in parts of Iraq and Syria, also view Iraq’s majority Shi’ites as infidels who deserve to be killed.

July 6, 2014 By administrator

The beautiful memorial of the Armenian Genocide Villeurbanne which had been inaugurated by Mayor Jean-Paul Bret April 23, 2005, on the eve of the commemoration of its 90th anniversary was desecrated on July 3. arton101396-480x271Vandals have attacked the particular entry made of steel letters that were embedded in the stone. Some of these letters were torn and twisted others to deface the phrase “recognize the Armenian genocide.”

It is part of the long list of sacrilegious actions against the victims of this crime which is still not recognized by the Turkish state and continues to do its part the subject of a militant denial. France: Kurds murdered in Paris: we must continue the hunt for sponsors (family)

June 24, 2014 By administrator

The investigation into the murder of three Kurdish activists in January 2013 in Paris must dig the track of potential liability Turkish services in the crime, told AFP Monday the cansiz_2533649bbrother of a victim at the end of a meeting with the judge.

The Anti-terrorism magistrate Jeanne Duye received for several hours at the courthouse in Paris families Sakine Cansiz, Dogan Fidan and Leyla Saylemez to a point on its investigation into a crime that shocked the Kurdish community.

Alleged running of this triple murder, Turkish Ömer Güney is indicted and imprisoned forever. Questions about its possible relationship with the Turkish Intelligence Service (MIT) have been revived in recent months, including the distribution of a recording on the internet likely to cause.

Denis Dogan Dogan Fidan’s brother, told AFP that the plaintiffs had presented to the judge the text of a pre-election speech in March in Urfa in southeastern Turkey, the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“He says that the Gülen movement, organization infiltrated the Turkish state apparatus, is responsible for the triple murder,” he has explained with reference to the brotherhood of the imam Fethullah Gülen. “We now expect the judge to investigate in this direction.”

Mr. Gulen, 72, lives since 1999 in Pennsylvania, where he directs a powerful socio-religious movement that count millions of members, very influential in the police and the Turkish judiciary.

The head of government accuses “güleniste” movement, long an ally, to be the origin of the vast corruption scandal that threatens his regime since mid-December. Erdogan suspected of having been a “parallel state” to cause his downfall.

“We also expect that the judge questioned the French intelligence services to see if they have information about Ömer Güney,” continued Mr. Dogan. The judge denied this request in September.

Mr. Dogan said he was “generally satisfied” with the inquiry: “Many elements show that Güney committed the murder and that he was a pawn of MIT,” said he accused.

Earlier this year, MIT had again denied any involvement.

Sakine Cansiz was a figure of the Workers Party of Kurdistan (PKK), considered close to its historic leader Abdullah Öcalan. Dogan Fidan was a Kurdish activist well known in the European political class.

They were executed several times in the head January 9, 2013 in Kurdish Information Centre (CIK) in Paris.
