Turkey clashes at least two people killed in southeast between (PKK) and Huda-par

December 28, 2014 By administrator

According to a local governor’s office, the deadly skirmishes occurred in the town of Cizre on Saturday and also left three people injured.

The town has seen an escalation in tensions since Friday night, when the Huda-Par militant group assaulted tents belonging to the PKK, a security source said. The unnamed source added that clashes in Cizre are continuing sporadically.

Huda-Par has long been antagonistic toward the PKK, which has been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region in southeastern Turkey since the 1980s.

Violent street fights occurred between the Huda Par group and the PKK in southeast Turkey in October, when the ISIL terror group was battling Kurdish forces in the mainly Kurdish town of Kobani in Syria.

The Turkish government has not intervened militarily against ISIL terrorists, in a move which has angered the country’s Kurdish residents.

Turkey launched a peace process with the PKK in 2012 to end the Kurdish struggle for independence. The PKK declared a ceasefire with Turkey last March after its jailed leader, Abdullah Ocalan, ordered an end to the armed campaign for autonomy.

It is feared that negotiations between Ankara and the PKK for a peaceful resolution would be derailed due to the standoff over Kobani.

Kurd-tenThe teen reportedly died on Sunday during a demonstration held against the construction of new military posts in the southern Turkish city.

According to reports, the teenager was hit in the head by a stun grenade fired by security forces.

Several demonstrations have been held in Kurdish-majority areas over the construction of new army posts, which are considered by some as a threat to the peace process between the Turkish government and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

On June 6, two Kurdish protestors were killed during clashes between protesters and security forces in Lice, in the southeastern Diyarbakir Province, where the government is constructing military barracks.

The deaths sparked demonstrations across Turkey. Diyarbakir has been a scene of protests against the Turkish government for the past few days.

Also on Sunday, dozens of Kurdish protesters took to the streets in Istanbul to express their anger at the killing of the two Kurds.

The government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is holding peace talks with the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party to end a 30-year conflict. The PKK has been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region in southeastern Turkey since the 1980s. The conflict has left tens of thousands of people dead. The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by many countries.

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of Egypt on Friday, following the army’s call for an end to “violence and terrorism.” Fatalities and injuries were reported as clashes broke out between supporters and opponents of ousted President Morsi.

Over 100 people were reportedly injured across the country, as Egypt’s two opposing political camps took to the streets. At least five people were killed in the city of Alexandria, according to the Interior ministry.

As numerous rallies took place across the troubled nation, thousands of pro-military protesters gathered in Cairo’s Tahrir Square in support of the army-backed government. A number of high ranking police officers joined the protesters, Ahram online reported.

Demonstrators carried posters with photographs of army chief and defense minister General Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who on Wednesday called for Egyptian citizens to take to the streets to give the army a mandate to fight “terrorism and violence.”

As helicopters flew low, protesters chanted slogans such as, “This night there will be no more Muslim Brotherhood,” and “The army, the police, and the people are one hand.”
