In an interview with Tert.am, political scientist Hrant Melik-Shanzaryan commented on a statement by an Azerbaijani defense ministry spokesman that Azerbaijan is ready for a “unilateral ceasefire.”
Azerbaijan claims it is showing good will in response to the international community’s calls, whereas it is not for the first time that the international community has addressed such calls to Azerbaijan.
“Azerbaijan actually ‘hears’ only after it suffers severe losses in the battlefield. In fact, it is great losses rather than the international community’s calls that account for the Azerbaijani defense office’s statement. They cannot find the necessary human resources for the front,” Mr Melik-Shahnazaryan said.
Azerbaijan is seeking the biggest dividends in this situation.
“It should be noted, however, that it cannot make statement about unilateral ceasefire. It is only possible provided they actually listen to the international community’s calls, go back to their positions and give up the idea of escalating the situation on the border.
Azerbaijan’s authorities are obviously seeking to avoid suffering great losses and show success, which is not a fact. Rather it is disinformation Azerbaijan is officially disseminating.
