Turkish Workers Party (IP) leader Dogu Perincek gestures in front of his national flag and a portrait of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk during a press conference on the eve of his trial on denial of genocide 05 March 2007 in Renens. Perincek gave a speech on the Armenian genocide during a celebration of the 82nd anniversary of the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne which fixed the borders of modern-day Turkey. AFP PHOTO / FABRICE COFFRINIIn the struggle against the Turkish denial, the Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations of France (CCAF) has decided to launch a petitionasking Switzerland to appeal the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR),, French-Armenian journalist Jean Eckian reports from Paris.

The ECHR found that the ultra-nationalist Dogu Perincek, president of the Party of Turkish workers could not be condemned for saying publicly in Geneva in 2007, the “so-called Armenian genocide is an imperialist lie”.

The ECtHR recently ruled in favor of Armenian Genocide-denying Turkish politician Dogu Perincek’s lawsuit that was filed against Switzerland. The said judgment by European Court of Human Rights was made on the grounds of freedom of speech. In 2008, a Swiss court had convicted Perincek for denying the Armenian Genocide. Dogu Perincek is Chairman of the socialist Workers’ Party of Turkey.
