Vice President of the Armenian National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov received on Wednesday a delegation of Yezidis from Iraq and the Republic of Kurdistan.
According to the parliament’s press office, the sides discussed the Yezidis’ situation in Armenia, focusing on their cultural, religious, linguistic and ethnic identity preservation issues.
Sharmazanov told the guests that Armenia’s provides a high level state support to the ethnic minorities, especially the Yezidis, considering the traditional closeness with the community a sign of century-long traditional friendship. He proposed developing the parliamentary relations by making the mutual visits more frequent.
Thanking the Armenian authorities for the state support, the delegation members said that Kurdistan’s government too, spares no efforts to ensure the local Armenians’ active involvement in different spheres of the country’s public life and foster the friendship between the two nations.
