Armenia President hopes Azerbaijanis also study at UWC Dilijan College

UWC-Dilijan-College-1Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan wants for Azerbaijani students to likewise get an education at the United World Colleges (UWC) Dilijan College in Armenia.

The President expressed such a wish at Saturday’s official opening of this school.

“I’m confident that this day will come, and I want this day to come as soon as possible,” he added.

Sargsyan congratulated the College staff and students, and thanked all those who had assisted in the construction of this school.

“We [, Armenia,] are not planning on competing with anyone with natural resources and exploiting the mineral resources of one’s own country. Mineral resources are limited. We [, on the other hand,] will consistently develop the human capital,” the President specifically stated.

He added that since the UWC Dilijan College is an international school, students from a variety of countries will be getting an education there, and this will create new opportunities for Armenia.

Serzh Sargsyan also donated two books on Armenia’s monuments to the school, and formally unveiled the plaque of the UWC Dilijan College.

 

Armenia The city of Echmiadzin celebrated its 2699th anniversary

Armenia’s Eurasian Economic Union accession treaty is signed

EaEU-signedThe treaty on Armenia’s joining the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) has been signed.

The accession agreement was signed at the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting, which was convened Friday in the Belarusian capital city of Minsk, and by the leaders of the member countries, Interfax news agency reported.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed the hope that the parliaments of all member countries will approve the EaEU accession treaty by the year’s end.

In May, the presidents of Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan had signed the treaty on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union, and this agreement shall enter into force next year, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.

Turkish university announced anti-Armenian contest

contestA Turkish university has announced a contest for the best poster depicting cruelty of Armenians.

The results of contest will be declared on January 19 — the death anniversary of Hrant Dink, Agos newspaper reported.

The contest is organized by the department of fine art at Gazi University with the support of Azerbaijani embassy in Ankara. The statement issued by organizers said the links between two nations were allegedly cut because of betrayal of the Armenians.

The aim of this exhibition is to sober international community that ignored “massacres of Turks” by Armenians during the First World War, professor Alev Cakmakoglu said.

 

Govt. approves Armenia’s Eurasian Economic Union accession draft doc

183052The government of Armenia on Thursday, Oct 2 approved a draft document on joining the the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty, ITAR-TASS reported.

“Upon joining the Treaty, Armenia becomes a member of the Eurasian Economic Union,” the document says.

From this moment, the acts of the Eurasian Economic Union will be applied on the territory of Armenia, according to the document.

The document’s addenda highlight 29 agreements, which Armenia will join, terms of the republic’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union and transitional provisions.

A separate addendum contains a list of goods and services subject to customs duties during the transitional period that differ from the levies effective in the customs union of the Eurasian economic bloc.

After governmental confirmation, the draft will be submitted for parliamentary approval. Russia’s upper house of parliament unanimously ratified on Wednesday, Oct 1 the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union. The Treaty on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union was signed by the presidents of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan on May 29, 2014 in Astana. The agreement is the basic document defining the accords between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan for creating the Eurasian Economic Union for the free movement of goods, services, capital and workforce and conducting coordinated, agreed or common policies in key sectors of the economy, such as energy, industry, agriculture and transport. The Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union is to enter force on January 1, 2015.

Turkey’s Erdogan speaks on relations with Armenia

Speaking at the official opening of the new legislative year of the Turkish parliament, Erdogan also reflected on the Karabakh issue and relations with Armenia, reported NTV television of Turkey.

“We [, Turkey,] exhibit a completely principal, objective, peace-advocating, and constructive position in the Cyprus issue, elimination of the occupation of Azerbaijani lands, [and] relations with Armenia and the events [that occurred] in 1915,” the Turkish president stated.

Armenia Elected to Host World Tech Forum in 2019

wcitYEREVAN (Arka)—Armenia has been selected to host the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT), to be held in 2019, the Deputy Executive Director of Armenia’s Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE), Hayk Chobanian, announced on Facebook.

The decision to hold WCIT 2019 in the capital of Armenia was adopted at WCIT 2014, which was held in Mexico City from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.

According to Chobanian, the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) – the organizing body of WCIT — had announced a competition to hold WCIT 2019 in one of WITSA member countries. As a member of the alliance UITE had sent an application.

“For us it is very important that such a conference is to be held in Armenia. In the first place, it is very important from the point of view of increasing the technological rating of the country,” says Chobanyan.

According to him, in order to achieve this goal it is necessary to begin actively cooperating with WITSA.

The World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) is a consortium of associations from information and communications technology industries around the world. The group claims that it represents over 90 percent of the world IT market through its global membership, and has a goal of advancing the growth and development of the IT industry.

WITSA was founded in 1978 as the World Computing Services Industry Association, and participates in advocacy in international public policy that affects the “global information infrastructure.”

It voices the concerns of the international IT industry in organizations such as the World Trade Organization, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, and the G8. WITSA represents IT industry associations in over 80 countries or economies.

UITE was founded in 2000 to protect the interests of local IT companies in Armenia, stimulate business development, and encourage research in the field of IT.

Armenia FM to travel to Serbia

FM-To-SerbiaYEREVAN. – At the invitation of Ivica Dačić, the First Deputy Prime Minister  and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian will pay an official visit to Serbia on Thursday.

In the Serbian capital city of Belgrade, Nalbandian is scheduled to meet with senior representatives of the legislative and executive authorities of Serbia, and the Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, informed the Armenia MFA press service.

Karolos Papoulias: Greece ready to assist Armenia-EU relations

greece-ready-YEREVAN. – President of Greece Karolos Papoulias said his country is ready to make contribution to development of relations between Armenia and European Union.

The Armenian and Greek people share common values and history, he said during the Armenian-Greek business forum held in Yerevan.

“The links connecting us with the past are alive. They are strengthened and developed by the Armenian community in Greece, which is making a very active and creative contribution to the economy of our country. On the other hand, the Greek community in Armenia, though relatively small, is also well known for its activities,” Papoulias said.

He added that Greece has much to offer to Armenian investors, as the country has been rapidly going out of the economic crisis and went 28 points up in the World Bank’s Doing Business within two years.

“We look forward to hosting Armenian companies,” he resumed.
