George Bournoutian is professor, Historian, and author. he is a Senior professor of History at Iona College and the author of over twenty-eight books, primarily on Armenian history. He has taught Armenian history at Columbia University, tufts University, new York University, Rutgers University, the University of Connecticut, Ramapo College, and Glendale community College. He is currently the visiting professor of Armenian History at Columbia.

Professor Bournoutian earned his bachelors, master, and doctorate degrees from UCLA.

we were fortunate to present Professor Bournoutian last february, and are excited to hear him again.

we look forward to Dean Georges Van den Abbeele’s opening remarks about the future of Armenian studies at UC Irvine.

Buenos Aires to host Armenian festival

armenian-festival, argentinaAn Armenian festival will take place at the Plaza Barrancas de Belgrano in Buenos Aires, November 29.

Armenian music, song and dances, art shows and Armenian cuisine will feature the event.

Argentinians will take part in the event thereby showing their attitude to the Armenian people.

“This festival will show Argentine’s appreciation of centuries-old Armenian culture. Lito Vitale and Juan Carlos Barreto will take part in the festival as well. Their performances will impart a special atmosphere to the festival,” Bartolome Ketchyan, Chairman of an Armenian cultural Center, told PrensaArmenia.com. The festival is one of the vents marking the centennial of the Armenian Genocide.

Armenia Fund 2014 17th telethon raises $12,399,550

GB31aBO67RMw0D0hn2P7OF9HRyAt the close of Thursday’s American Thanksgiving Telethon 2014, the Armenia Fund raised a total of $12,399,550 in donations and pledges.

The funds collected will be used to complete the Vardenis-Martakert Highway, a 116-km road connecting northern Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh) to Armenia, as well as special projects in Armenia and Artsakh, and which the philanthropists have selected, the Armenia Fund press service informed.

Separately, the 15th European fundraising-phonethon of the Armenia Fund was held from November 19 to 23 in France, and this event raised over €1.37 million in donations and pledges.

France, Results of the European Armenian Fund Phonethon: More than 1.37 million € obtained in 4 days

arton105596-320x480The European Phonethon, humanitarian operation organized by the Armenian Fund of France to Armenia, Karabakh and the affected population in Syria, under the sign of solidarity and sharing and sponsored this year by Adriana Karembeu and Patrick Fiori has closed this Sunday, November 23, 2014.

Through phone calls given by nearly 750 volunteers from Orange platforms (Lyon, Marseille, Paris, Toulouse), plus 1.37 million € were collected in pledges in Europe with 60,000 families and companies contacted during this operation.

For the president of the Armenian Fund of France, Bedros Terzian, “Once again, neither the economic crisis nor the uncertainties of all kinds began the unwavering solidarity of our volunteers and donors with Armenia, Karabakh and distressed populations in Syria. In the year 2014, through their dedication and generosity, France, Germany, Greece, Switzerland and Belgium, as in all countries where the Armenian Fund is established, they send a strong message of hope in the coming soon.

Thousands of poor families will benefit from projects that these gifts will achieve: Agricultural Development in Armenia; rural centers of social action in Karabakh; construction of the Vardenis-Mardakert highway; etc. Over 1.24 million € in pledges from France, Germany € 71,000, € 27,000 from Switzerland, Greece € 21,000, € 6,000 in Belgium, etc. Similar operations are taking place right now in the United States, Canada, Australia, Argentina and Lebanon, as well as in Armenia and Karabakh.

Exhibition on World Press Coverage of Armenian Genocide Hosted in Tehran

tehran-exhibit-2TEHRAN (ArmRadio)—An exhibition titled “Armenian Genocide: Front Page Coverage in the World Press” and the presentation of a book of the same the title was held in Tehran. The event was organized by the Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee of the Armenian Diocese of Tehran.

The guest speaker of the event was historian Hayk Demoyan: the author of the book, director of the Armenian Genocide Museum Institute, and the Secretary of State Commission on coordination of the events dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The exhibition, which opened on Nov. 14 at Tehran’s Ararat cultural center, included 60 images that tell the story of the Turkish crime against humanity and civilization, which has always been in the focus of world press.

Several examples from Persian press of the time were also included in the exhibition.

A welcoming speech was also made by Armenush Arakelian, chairman of the Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee of the Armenian Diocese of Tehran.

In his speech, Demoyan noted: “The capacity of the book and exhibition lies in the fact that we can simply show; without any additional commentary.” He added, “In our strategy we should take into account three auditoriums. First the international audience; along with the memory or history of any nation we should introduce the topic of genocide. The second audience is the Turkish one, and the third one is the Armenian; and we need to educate a competitive, mentally strong generation in the diaspora, Artsakh and Armenia”.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of Armenia to Iran and Embassy staff, Armenian representatives from the Iranian Parliament, representatives of national authorities, agencies, and associations, and representatives from Alik media.

The Cut, Fatih Akin, the film is going to cringe in Turkey

Presented for the first November 7 in Paris, the film German-Turkish filmmaker Fatih Akin, may grind more than one tooth in Turkey. It should indeed out on the screens of 5 cities, 5 December, Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya and Eskişehir.

In France, the film will be screened in 120 theaters, on January 15, 2015, with dialogue dubbed in Armenian, Turkish and Arabic subtitled in French. Distribution Pyramid Films.

At the end of the projection preview, Fatih Akin was willing to bend the game of questions and answers asked by reporters about the shooting conditions and the Turkish-Armenian issue (see here). Of these, the question of whether he was worried for directing this film, Fatih Akin says that only “fascists” Turkish threatened.

France: The stars of the Armenian song are packed in Décines

The evening, organized by the “Armenian Nour ‘association, presented by comedian Ashot Ghazarian kept his promise. In turn, Vartan Badalian, Hamlet Kevorkian, Kohar HOVHANISSIAN and Aghassi Ispirian accompanied by dancers of the troupe of folk dances Nairi (Lyon) enchanted the room. The popular Kohar HOVHANISSIAN even down from the stage to invite the public to some kotcharis. For a few hours, the public-including a large part of Armenia-native was taken in the mountains and plains of Armenia. Mush in Van, Sasun in Van, Armenia was present at Décines. Sirusho: “For the first time people will see my baby during my concert in Los Angeles” (Video)

300x220Famous singer Sirusho who is in the USA for now, gave an interview to the Channel “US Armenia” and spoke about her career, activities, personal life and upcoming concert..

Sirusho mentioned that all the facebook posts that shared the photo of her baby child were fake photos though the babies were very beautiful and nice children. She also mentioned that it is possible to see her child for the first time during her solo concert which will took place on 9th of November in Los Angeles.
