Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili is a source of danger for the country, the parliament speaker told reporters on Thursday, according to Itar-tass.
David Usupashvili has said that he “knows Saakashvili since 1993”. “He has remained the way he used to be. His actions and statements cannot be forecasted, and the presidential powers he had were never enough for him, he was trying to exceed their limits,” Usupashvili said.
According to him, “Saakashvili is a source of danger for the country”. “We all have to tolerate this for another three months, until his presidential term expires, and then everybody will calm down,” he added.
Saakashvili was elected as president twice – in January 2004 and at an early election in January 2008. He has no right to run for president at the upcoming presidential election, due on October 27.
Throughout the period of his presidency, many of opposition organizations and public activists have sharply criticized his policy, accusing him among other things of failing to perform his election pledges to improve the life of the population, of suppressing the opposition and violating human rights, as well as of not taking an opportunity of a chance to normalize relations with Russia.
This year representatives of the Georgian Dream ruling coalition have repeatedly said that “in his statements Saakashvili tries to impede processes of political stabilization in the country and fence mending between Georgia and Russia”. Saakashvili himself denies this.
