Members of a recently launched civic group identifying itself as Alternative Municipality on Tuesday submitted a letter to the office of the EU Delegation to Armenia, complaining about ‟continuing violations of human rights″ and “restrictions on civic freedoms”.
The rallied a crowd of supporters outside the mission to voice their concern over what they called attempts to silence informed citizens through repressive methods. The leader of the group, Sona Aghekyan, said they intend to hand over a letter with a similar content also to the Ombdusman’s Office. ‟My fellow team members and I receive numerous complaints, often encountering the police wall when raising those problems,″ she said, calling for proper attention by Piotr Switalski, the EU ambassador to Armenia.
Aghekyan also blamed the ‟repressive regime″ for attempts to ‟silence and opress″ informed citizens ‟in an effort to establish dictatorship″.
