Russian Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation has provided a new turbo-generator to the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP), ARMENPRESS was informed from Rosatom.
This is the second turbo-generator provided by Rosatom in the sidelines of the project of the modernization of the ANPP and prolongation of its exploitation period. The new turbo generator will give an opportunity to raise the effectiveness of the power plant and increase electricity production.
The first turbo-generator was provided in 2017, which came to replace the old one exploited since 1970.
“After the modernization of the equipment of the ANPP, which also assumes replacement of transformers, turbines, capacitors and other devices, we will produce nearly by 40 MWs more electricity using the same amount of fuel than we produce now”, General Director of the ANPP Movses Vardanyan said, emphasizing that it will give an opportunity to reduce the prime cost of the product.
A Rosatom official informed that all the equipment necessary for the modernization of the ANPP have already been delivered to Armenia or will be delivered during 2019. The works will be over by the end of 2021.
The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant is the only NPP in the region. The 2nd energy block is now in use, which provides 40% of the energy consumed in Armenia.
