An individual contribution should mark the major turning point in Armenia’s future development, making every citizen a decision-maker in realizing government objectives, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a regional business forum on Saturday.
In his speech at the event entitled “My Step for the Tavush Region”, the Armenian leader elaborated on the idea and objectives of similar events, stressing the importance of an active citizen engagement and an individual-based approach.
“Our main objective is the promotion
and encouragement of an individual effort towards the development of
Armenia, but we are confident that the very individual effort itself is
the turning point and the phoenomenon which should – economically and
politically – raise Armenia to a new level,” he said.
“Though the government should be the locomotive of changes, it is for the citizens to decide their own future fate for themselves,” the prime minister added.
Pashinyan also agreed that the government should be essentially proactive in enabling its citizens to reveal and ralize their hidden talents. The premier cited speicific examples of individuals who he said had great achievements in their business “by starting everything from just a scratch.”
“Those people are the heroes of our times, and their example should be encouraging to others,” he noted.
“What makes sense is not the money,” the prime minister added, “but rather the fact that by waking up every morning, a person knows what he is supposed to do and feels satisfied at the end of the day.”
