Julián Castro, a former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, launched his presidential bid in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday. While the announcement was expected, it places him near the front of what could be a jam-packed field of White House hopefuls.
The grandson of an immigrant from Mexico, Castro said his grandmother could have never imagined that he would be standing before the crowd to say, “I am a candidate for the president of the United States of America.” He then repeated the statement in Spanish.
